The UConn Huskies were thrilled when head coach Dan Hurley turned down a massive offer from the Los Angeles Lakers, and they have now locked up their leader. Hurley Gets New Deal for six years with UConn which is worth $50 million.

This new deal will keep Hurley in Storrs through the 2029-30 season, but there could be another extension coming at some point as well. Hurley has led the Huskies to back-to-back national championships, and he has a roster that is capable of winning another title this season.

Hurley Gets New Deal with Potential Windfall Exceeding $50 Million

This deal offers the chance to surpass $50 million thanks to performance incentives. If Hurley continues to have as much success as the last few seasons then he will rack up the money.

The Los Angeles Lakers actually offered Hurley a six-year deal worth as much as $70 million, but the coach wanted to remain in the action of the college basketball schedule. Hurley took a couple of meetings with the Lakers but ultimately chose to come back to UConn with a loaded roster.

UConn clearly wants to keep Hurley around, and they are going to give him $1 million as a retention bonus just for coming back each year. He will also earn money by fulfilling media and speaking obligations as he has become a huge name around that part of the country.

UConn Eyes Historic Three-Peat: Huskies Aim to Extend Dynasty

It’s hard to put into words just how dominant UConn has been over the last few years, and they have gotten even better during the March Madness Bracket. The Huskies have gone 68-11 over the past two seasons, and that’s the best two-year stretch in program history.

During the back-to-back national championships, UConn won all 12 NCAAB matchups by double-digits. Their most recent run was the most impressive as they had the largest margin of victory in NCAA Tournament history.

The Huskies did have four of their starters drafted into the NBA during the 2024 Draft, but it didn’t take long for Hurley to reload. Alex Karaban agreed to come back to school, and that was part of the reason that Hurley agreed to stay with UConn.

No team has managed to win three national championships in a row since the tournament field expanded to 64. UCLA is the only team to have won three straight titles, but all of those came all the way back in the 1970s.

Duke and Florida are the other teams that have won back-to-back titles, but each team failed to get past the first weekend.

Earning a spot on the USA Select Team, Flagg locks in a hefty reward. The USA Select Team gets the chance to compete against Team USA as the professional players get ready for the Paris Olympics.

There were 15 players selected to join the USA Select Team, and Flagg acknowledged that he was shocked to be given the invitation. He becomes the first collegiate player to compete for this team since 2013, and videos have already surfaced of him competing with the star players.

The team bolstered its roster with a blend of exciting young NBA stars and seasoned veterans. With a specific mission in mind, the USA Select Team took the field to put Team USA through every possible scenario.
