The College Basketball season is underway, making it an ideal time to explore some March Madness future favorites set to cut down the nets in early April. Let’s take a closer look.
Top Contenders and Dark Horses
Kansas Jayhawks +1100
Bill Self aspires to secure his third National Championship during his tenure as the Jayhawks’ head coach. Merely 16 coaches in the history of college basketball have managed to clinch two or more National Championships. And a select group of five has achieved the prestigious feat of winning three or more titles. Self is earnestly aiming to join this exclusive club of accomplished coaches.
Kansas has added Hunter Dickinson, a transfer from Michigan. Who is considered a strong contender for the National Player of the Year title. This valuable addition may prove instrumental in propelling Kansas Jayhawks to the championship this season. However, the team’s potential doesn’t solely rest on Dickinson’s shoulders. The return of K.J. Adams, Kevin McCullar, and Dajuan Harris make up the Jayhawks, making them one of the most talented and seasoned teams in the entire realm of college basketball.
Duke Blue Devils +1300
The reasons for considering the Blue Devils as strong contenders for the National Championship are quite evident. They are welcoming back four starters from a team that secured the ACC title in the previous season, and their roster is further bolstered by the inclusion of a top-five recruiting class, ensuring a wealth of talent for Duke.
Duke boasts a formidable frontcourt, led by Kyle Filipowski, who is widely regarded as one of the top candidates for the National Player of the Year award. However, the uncertainty for Duke lies in the potential of their guard play. Although the return of Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor is a positive development for the Blue Devils, there are valid reasons to question whether this guard duo possesses the necessary skill and prowess to compete with some of the nation’s finest.

Kentucky Wildcats +2000
Kentucky, although falling short of its typical standard in recent seasons, finds itself under the guidance of head coach John Calipari. He has assembled one of his most talent-laden squads ever. This year’s team strikes a harmonious balance between seasoned contributors and exceptionally gifted freshmen.
The Wildcats’ potential for success this season hinges on the performance of their freshman talents in the NCAA tournament. Justin Edwards and DJ Wagner have the potential to become top-10 picks in the upcoming NBA draft. If both youngsters fulfill their promise, Kentucky will prove to be a formidable foe for any opponent and could mount a challenge for the National Championship.
Michigan State Spartans +2000
Michigan State is determined to garner head coach Tom Izzo his second National Championship this season. The Spartans would have been considered among the favorites in the 2020 tournament, which was regrettably canceled. This year, Michigan State boasts a complete roster. Featuring seasoned guards of a high caliber, tenacious forwards known for their rebounding prowess, and a boost of talent from a top-five incoming recruiting class.
To provide valuable experience to their freshmen, Michigan State has strategically constructed a demanding non-conference schedule. When the Big Ten play commences, the Spartans will be thoroughly tested. By the time the NCAA Tournament arrives, they are expected to rank among the nation’s elite teams, led by two senior guards in Tyson Walker and A.J. Hoggard, potentially forming the best duo in all of college basketball.

Purdue Boilermakers +2000
As for Purdue, the National Championship may seem like a distant goal. Their fans are primarily focused on overcoming the early-round upsets that have marred their recent NCAA Tournament performances. It’s worth recalling that the last team to lose as a 1-seed to a 16-seed was Virginia. And they went on to win the NCAA tournament the following year. Purdue aspires to achieve a similar turnaround this season.
To realize this goal, Purdue must address the need for improved guard play, despite the presence of returning National Player of the Year Zach Edey. The responsibility for past upsets does not rest with Edey but rather with the guards who struggled to handle defensive pressure and make clutch plays when needed.
There are the Top 5 favorites to take down the March Madness Future. It will be a fun season to follow. Good luck and enjoy the season!
