History of this race
The Hollywood Casino 400 is the second of ten races of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs each season. The Hollywood Casino 400 event first ran in 2001 with Jeff Gordon taking the inaugural race at the Kansas Speedway.
The race was dominated by Rusty Wallace, who led 117 laps, but was penalized late in the race for a pit-lane speed violation, giving Gordon the lead. He would go on to hold off Ryan Newman to claim his six victory of the season and take the points lead.
The race also set the records for cautions (13) and laps under caution (70), which are both track records today.

The track was reconfigured after the 2012 race to include a resurfacing, paving over grass on the backstretch for safety reasons and making the turn banking from a conformed 15 degrees to variable banking from 17-20 degrees.
Hendrick Motorsports not only holds the lead for most wins for the Hollywood Casino 400 with six, the team also has the longest race time with Gordon’s first win in the inaugural 2001 race in a time of 3:37.19 as well as the shortest race time during Chase Elliott’s 2018 win in a time of 2:38.02.
