Betting Insights for Go Bowling at The Glen

Hendrick Motorsports has won the last three NASCAR events at the Watkins Glen International Raceway, affectionately known as “The Glen.” Defending Cup Series champion, Kyle Larson, won the 2021 event, dethroning the two-time winner and teammate, Chase Elliott, who won in 2018 and 2019. Elliott finished second to Larson in 2021. As a side note the 2020 race was moved to Daytona due to the pandemic rules in New York state.

Chevrolet has completely dominated The Glen since the inaugural race when Tim Richmond took the victory for Hendrick Motorsports. The closest manufacturer to Chevrolet is Ford with eight wins but doesn’t compare to the 20 all-time wins for Chevy. The bulk of their wins has come from the success of Hendrick Motorsports behind their nine all-time victories.

How To Read NASCAR Betting Odds

Before you bet on the NASCAR race, there are different ways to bet on NASCAR races. Futures bets, where you place a wager on a result to be determined later such as “who will win the cup series”. Then, there are weekly wagers on who will win the race or driver match-ups where you wager on which driver will place ahead of the other.

When wagering on NASCAR, you might notice the favorite will almost always have a plus sign next to their odds. In other sports, the favorite is usually shown with a minus sign next to the odds. If the favorite has a minus sign such as -120, you have to wager that number to profit $100. As an example, you have to bet $120 to win $220, a profit of $100. If the race favorite has a plus sign next to his name, like +120, then that is what you would profit by betting $100.

Futures Betting

Futures bets are a type of prop bet which entails betting on the future results of a certain driver or team. Common examples could be; will Ryan Blaney repeat as the NASCAR Cup Champion? Or which race team will finish with the most wins in 2024?

Go Bowling at The Glen History

The inaugural NASCAR event at Watkins Glen saw Geoff Bodine dominate the race, but with 10 laps to go, he pitted too long and opened the door for Tim Richmond to take the lead and the win. Bodine wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. In 1996, after Dale Earnhardt, Jr. dominated the weekend with the pole, turning a track record at 120.733 mph and leading 53 laps, he short-pitted on his final stop, while Bodine stayed out on the track to take the lead after pitting earlier than others. He would go on to win in what would be his final NASCAR victory. The weekend would also be the last pole position for Earnhardt, Jr. in his career.

As NASCAR road courses are considered mostly pedestrian by fans, The Glen is the exception. There is always controversy and very aggressive driving, resulting in big crashes, fuming tempers and surprise winners. In 2016, Kyle Larson and Martin Truex, Jr. were each spun out intentionally on the final lap by Brad Keselowski and AJ Almendinger. After the race, the jilted drivers not only voiced their displeasure but put it on full display with intentional contact with their offenders on the cool-down lap, capping a day of frustration and paint-swapping not usually seen on road courses.

Fun Facts about NASCAR Go Bowling at The Glen Race

  • After compiling eight second-place finishes in his young career, Chase Elliott became the youngest driver to win on a road course in NASCAR by winning his first Cup Series race in the 2018 race at The Glen. He would also win in 2019.

  • In 2010, Colombian-born Juan Pablo Montoya beat road-course specialist, Marcos Ambrose, to win his second NASCAR race and break a 113-race winless streak. The win holds historical significance as it marked the first time a foreign-born driver won multiple NASCAR events.

  • Tony Stewart holds the record at The Glen for most victories with five from 2002-2009. After nearly getting fired by his race team for an incident the previous week, Stewart won his first race at The Glen in 2002. In 2004, he battled food poisoning and a sinus infection to get his second Glen win.

NASCAR Go Bowling at The Glen Betting tips

Each week you can wager on which driver will win that week’s race. Also, many sportsbooks will allow you to be a little more cautious and choose whether a driver will finish in the top three, top five, or other option.

Picking a racer to win a race is a risky task as there are crashes, car failures and even problems on pit road. To get beyond that and run the perfect race over all the other drivers is very difficult indeed and that’s why the odds have a good value of +300 (3:1) or more for the favorite of each race and then higher odds for all other drivers following. It’s not unusual to win with a driver that pays +1000 (10:1) on any given race as the level of difficulty to win is so high.

Head-to-head matchups allow bettors to focus on a certain head-to-head battle between two racers, rather than the more general wager of winning the race. These matchups are typically between two drivers or a group of four drivers. Bettors select which driver will have a better result in the race.

NASCAR prop bets are when you wager on specific racing scenarios that may occur. Examples of this could be; how many caution flags will be thrown? Which manufacturer will win the race? The number of crashes in a race. And the list goes on. This Nascar race prediction is a fun way to enjoy the market and get away from the seriousness of winning the race. Nascar predictions for this week should be a great time.
