Boston College Eagles

The Boston College Eagles find themselves with a 6-7 record so far this season led by first-year head coach Earl Grant, as their hopes to make the NCAA March Madness Tournament for the first time since 2009 are rapidly going by the wayside.

As a team, they currently average 67.1 points per game, which lands them towards the bottom of the ACC.

They also don’t shoot the three as well as their competition within the division, but they are a middle-of-the-pack rebounding team within the division, pulling down 36.5 boards per game on average.

The highest amount of points they put up in a game this season has been 85, which came in a blowout victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders, which was their second game of the season.

They’ve played two of their division foes this season, going 1-1 in division play thus far.

They blew out the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 73-57 but then got absolutely crushed by the North Carolina Tar Heels 91-65.

Boston College Eagles Standings

Since their debut in 1904, the Boston College Eagles have carved their legacy on the court. While national championships remain elusive, they’ve secured 22 conference titles, boasting a feathery .591 winning percentage throughout history. Upsets against giants like Duke and North Carolina cemented their “Giant Killers” reputation, thrilling fans. Though conference affiliations have shifted, their competitive spirit remains, captivating audiences with electrifying play and fostering future NBA stars like Luke Harangody and Charlie Smith. Today, they continue to soar, seeking new heights and etching their mark as a force to be reckoned with in the ever-evolving world of college basketball.

Boston College Eagles Betting Trends

Boston College Eagles have carved a niche in college basketball, known for their scrappy defense and passionate fanbase. While not perennial powerhouses, they’ve captured hearts with Cinderella runs and upsets, reaching the NCAA Tournament 11 times. Their betting trends reflect their “David vs. Goliath” mentality: strong against the spread at home (12-5 past 5 seasons), but facing struggles on the road (8-14 ATS). While their future remains unwritten, the Eagles’ historical betting trends suggest they’ll continue to be a captivating, unpredictable force on the court.

Team History

As previously mentioned, the last time the Eagles made the tourney was back in 2009, where they took a loss to the USC Trojans 72-55 in the first round.

Tyrese Rice was their leading scorer and playmaker that season, as he averaged 16.9 points and 5.3 assists per game. Joe Trapani and Rakim Sanders were also a huge part of their success that season.

The last time they made it past the first round of the tourney was back in 2006, as they took a heartbreaking 60-59 overtime loss to the Villanova Wildcats in the Sweet 16.

The furthest this program has ever made it in the tourney was the Elite Eight, as that has happened twice in their history.

The last time that happened was back in 1994, where they took a 74-66 loss to the Florida Gators.

Bill Curley and Howard Eisley were the leading scorers for BC that year, averaging 20.0 and 16.0 points, respectively.

Boston College Eagles Stats

Soaring since 1904, the Boston College Eagles men’s basketball team has carved a niche in college hoops history. While national titles remain elusive, they’ve consistently contended in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. 20 conference championships and 23 NCAA Tournament appearances showcase their prowess. Upsets against giants like Duke and North Carolina cemented their “Giant Killers” reputation. Though recent seasons haven’t yielded deep tournament runs, their passionate fan base and rich tradition ensure the Eagles remain a force to be reckoned with in the ACC and beyond.

Championships

This team has never won an NCAA championship, but they have won two Big East regular-season championships back when they used to play in that division.

The last such championship came in 2001, as they defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers 79-57.

“For this team to be in the tournament after where it was a year ago is a tremendous accomplishment,” then head coach Al Skinner said after that game. “To be talking No. 1 and 2 seeds is a different story. If this was a movie it would be too corny. You couldn’t write it.”

Xavier Singletary led the way with 15 points in that game. Uka Agbai and Jonathan Beerbohm chipped in 13 and 12 points apiece.

The other championship came in 1997, as they took down Villanova by a final score of 70-58.

Scoonie Penn was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, as he moved on to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes after that season.

Important Team Events

A key moment that happened in this program’s history was when they rattled off 20 straight victories to start off the 2004-05 campaign, beating two ranked opponents and matching the hot start of the Illinois Fighting Illini, as Illinois found themselves in the March Madness championship game later that season.

Another memorable moment in this program’s history was when they made it all the way to the Sweet 16 for the first time in 12 years back in 2006, as they had to beat the Maryland Terrapins and defending champion North Carolina Tar Heels to get there.

Making it to the Elite Eight in 1994 was also memorable, as they took down the Washington State Cougars, North Carolina, and Indiana Hoosiers to get to that game before ultimately taking a loss to Florida.

That entire run was memorable, however, as it was the first time in nine years since the program made the tournament.
