The 1963 squad, on the other hand, famously slipped out of the state in the middle of the night to participate in the “Game of Change.”
Under former MSU Head Basketball Coach Rick Stansbury, the Bulldogs achieved six of the ten NCAA berths in the last ten years. They’ve won 10 conference championships, including four as a member of the now-defunct Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 1912, 1913, 1914, and 1916 and six SEC championships in 1959, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1991, and 2004.
The Bulldogs have won four conference tournament titles, including one in 1923 as a member of the Southern Conference and three in 1996, 2002, and 2009. Erick Dampier, Bailey Howell, and Jarvis Varnado are among Mississippi State’s famous graduates.

Important Team Events
Mississippi State does not have any traditions or events that they do each year. They have a big rivalry with Ole Miss that spans multiple sports, but they do not have anything special as far as basketball goes.
Each year, they have a “Midnight Madness” event to signify the start of the season, but it is not much different from what other teams do for their program.
Mississippi State had cowbells in the basketball arena as a tradition for a bit in the 1960s, but those were outlawed fairly quickly as it was determined that they affected the game being played due to the noise.
