The Rhode Island Rams men’s basketball program represents the University of Rhode Island, located in Kingston, RI, and is in the NCAA’s Division I. Playing in keaney blue, navy blue, and white, Rhode Island competes in the Atlantic-10 Conference. Their current head coach is David Cox, who is in his third season and has a 49-39 record this year. The team plays their home games at the Ryan Center in Kingston, RI.
The Rams entered the Atlantic-10 Conference in the 1982 season after being a member of the Eastern Athletic Association from 1980 to 1981. They spent one season in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference North (ECACN) in 1979-1980. From 1976 to 1978, they were Independent. Previous to that, they were members of the Yankee Conference from 1945 to 1975.
The Rhode Island Rams finished the 2020 season with a 10-15 overall record and were 7-10 in the Atlantic 10, finishing tenth in the conference. The Rams were defeated in the Atlantic-10 Conference Tournament second round, losing to Dayron 82-74.

The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball program started to play in 1903, playing as an independent until the 1936 season. Men’s basketball was recognized by the school’s Athletic Association in 1904, with their first head coach being P.H. Wessells.
The Rams were an independent program until the 1937-38 season when they joined the NCAA and the Yankee Conference. They finished that season with a 19-2 record and were 8-0 in the conference, finishing in first place.
The team made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1961 and has played in a total of 10 tournaments to date, making it as far as the Elite Eight in 1998, where they lost to Stanford 79-77.
