USC Trojans
The University of Southern California (USC) is one of the most storied college football programs of all time. This football program was founded all the way back in 1888, and it has enjoyed tremendous success since that time.
USC has racked up 11 claimed national championships in program history, and there have been a total of 13 seasons in which they have not lost a game. The Trojans compete in the Pac-12 Conference, a league in which it has absolutely dominated.
This program has not enjoyed a ton of recent success, but it is still considered one of the most important teams in the sport. USC has sent hundreds of players to the NFL, and there have been legendary players from the school as well.
There are three major rivals of the USC football program, and those schools include Notre Dame, UCLA, and Stanford. Winning those three games each year is typically considered a successful season for the Trojans, at least with their fans.

USC Trojans Team News and History
The USC Trojans have racked up more than 830 college football wins, making them one of the winningest programs of all time. USC has made 53 bowl appearances throughout history, and they have been a staple in the biggest games of the bowl season.
Through the end of the 2020 college football season, the USC Trojans have had 510 players selected in the NFL Draft. USC continues to draw national attention for even the smallest of news stories, and they play a majority of their games on national television.
Recent History
Even though USC is one of the best college football programs of all time, things haven’t gone as well recently. This program has had a hard time keeping football coaches, and there hasn’t been as much success in the Pac-12 Conference either.
The last Pac-12 Conference championship for USC came during the 2017 season, and there was an even longer gap before that. USC has been able to find some success in the South Division, but advancing to the Rose Bowl has been an issue.
Clay Helton was the latest coach to lead USC to a conference title, but he was also the latest coach to be fired. Helton was fired just two games into the season after the Trojans suffered an embarrassing loss to the Stanford Cardinal.
USC is expected to enter the 2022 college football season with a new man in charge, and a national search is underway.
Key Players in History
USC has had seven different players win the Heisman Trophy, but there were other players that had historic careers at USC and then went on to the NFL. Running backs Marcus Allen and O.J. Simpson are considered to be two of the greatest players in college football history.
At the quarterback position, Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer put up huge numbers for the Trojans and also won the Heisman Trophy. Running back Reggie Bush had one of the most impressive college football careers in history, but he has since been in trouble with the NCAA.
The list of USC alumni is long and distinguished, and many went on to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Key Championships
USC claims 11 national championships, even though they actually were awarded 17 titles from various publications and organizations. The Trojans won back-to-back titles in 1931-1932, but that feat was later duplicated and surpassed.
USC won the 2003 and 2004 National Championships, posting a combined record of 25-1 in those seasons. The Trojans were also in line to win a championship the next year before suffering a loss to Texas in a memorable Rose Bowl.
That stretch from 2003-2005 is considered the greatest stretch in the history of this legendary program.
Conference Outlook
The Pac-12 Conference is one of the Power 5 leagues when it comes to college football, but it has struggled to keep up with the other leagues. The Pac-12 Conference has not been able to consistently land a team in the College Football Playoff, and parity has played a role in that.
USC has to be considered the top college football program in the USC, but it’s hard to make that claim right now. The Trojans compete in the Pac-12 South Division, while there are six other teams in the North Division.
The goal for any team in the Pac-12 Conference is to win the league championship and earn the right to play in the Rose Bowl. There, the Pac-12 champion traditionally meets the winner of the Big Ten Conference.
There is still plenty of good college football programs in this conference, but there just hasn’t been a ton of success on the national level.
Coaching History
USC has had 17 coaches since the beginning of the 1925 season, but the longest tenure for any head coach was just 16 years. Howard Jones led the team from 1925-1940, and John McKay guided the Trojans from 1960-1975.
McKay is the all-time leader in wins at USC, compiling a record of 127-40-8. Robinson wasn’t too far behind as he guided the Trojans to 121 wins while the head coach.
Most would argue that Pete Carroll is the most successful coach in the history of USC football as his teams were some of the best in school history. Carroll was able to rack up 97 wins before leaving college for the NFL.
