On Saturday, August 27, there will be the main event bout between two former champions, Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey.
Fighters Performance Recap
These two will face off in a 10-round fight at the Hard Rock in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This Pedraza vs. Commey betting analysis will help break down this close battle between two elite fighters.
Pedraza is coming off a loss to Jose Ramirez via unanimous decision back in March. Richard Commey also came off a loss against Vasyl Lomachenko last December via unanimous decision.
Pedraza vs. Commey Betting Analysis
Jose Pedraza Analysis
Jose Pedraza, a Puerto Rican boxer and former two-weight world champion, is looking to salvage the end of his fighting career and maybe even work back to a title shot before it’s all said and done.
Doing a Pedraza vs. Commey betting analysis has to start with noting that Pedraza is a very technical and experienced boxer but has had some trouble with not being aggressive enough to win big fights as of late.
Pedraza’s Fighting Style
His style is a very solid pure boxing way of fighting. He moves well around the ring, keeps a high guard, and is a great counter puncher with a high fight IQ.
In his last fight, Pedraza was doing well against Ramirez early on. Switched up and confused Ramirez with southpaw looks and slipping in and out of range.
As the fight progressed, he just did not let his hands go when he needed to and throw combinations. He lost that fight because he simply got outworked, in my opinion.
Expectations for Pedraza
It will be interesting to see how Pedraza comes out in this matchup and if he has made the proper adjustments mentally to be able to throw those combinations when he needs to score against Commey.
Richard Commey Analysis
Richard Commey is a Ghanian boxer who held the IBF lightweight title in 2019. Along with Pedraza, he is looking to get back on track at the end of his career and fight his way back to a title shot.
Commey’s Fighting Style
Commey is a puncher-boxer in the ring. He will always come at you with everything he has and has some serious power. Gives a nice 1-2 combination with a fast right hand and throws it with bad intentions.
He fights off the momentum that he finds in the ring during a match. Once he gets in the groove and starts that momentum, he will come towards Pedraza and try to put his lights out.
Expectations for Commey
To win a fight against a pure boxer like Pedraza, Commey will want to make this an ugly one. He will lack the footwork and pure boxing skill in the ring on Saturday to out-box Pedraza.
This is an interesting matchup because you know that Commie will not be outworked in the ring. He will always be throwing punches and will do that round by round.
Fight General Information
- Top Rank Boxing will put on this event, and it will be aired on ESPN and ESPN+ on Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 PM ET.
Pedraza vs. Commey Betting Preview
Doing a Pedraza vs. Commey betting analysis is tough because there are no odds available for this fight. If there were boxing odds for this matchup, I think it would be pretty even, and maybe even a pick ’em type fight. These two combat each other well, which will be a very competitive fight.
Boxing picks are tough to make when the odds are so incredibly far apart like we see a lot in this sport. There isn’t much value in a guy that is -500 and is supposed to win a fight to increase his record just to make more money. That is why it is always a big event when two evenly matched; high-level boxers are in the ring.
Pedraza vs. Commey Betting Predictions
This is going to be a very interesting fight. Commey is the better puncher and the better man at output inside the ring.
This has given Pedraza troubles in the past with his inability to find opportunities to let his hands go into the later rounds of the fight when he needs to.
Who to Bet On?
I think that Pedraza has too much of a technical advantage over Commey to lose this one. Pedraza has a great chin, can take a clean shot, and has great footwork and counter-punching that will give Commey trouble.
If Commey can’t finish this fight in the first six rounds, I believe that Pedraza will pop shot and out-point him to a decision victory in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This is for sure a 50/50 fight, in my opinion. If Pedraza can keep his legs fresh for all ten rounds, he will win this one on points.
