All will be revealed on 13 August, but for now, we preview the fight, looking at the boxing odds to analyze your Lopez vs. Campa best bet.
Teofimo Lopez vs. Pedro Campa Information
Former world champion Teofimo Lopez will be out for revenge, having lost all of his title belts in an upset last November, and this fight presents the perfect opportunity for the promising fighter to do so.
Rather than accept a rematch against George Kambosos Jr. to reclaim his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles, Lopez opted to move up a weight class, attempting to become a two-weight world champion. Previously undefeated before his shock loss last year, Lopez has spoken ahead of this match, saying,
“I am calling this fight the ‘Take Back’ because I am coming to regain what I’ve lost. One defeat does not define a fighter. It won’t define me.”
Pedro Campa, on the other hand, is making a step up of his own. A veteran regional fighter with 36 fights to his name, the Mexican makes his professional debut in what represents a significant jump in class to fight Lopez.
An aggressive, seasoned fighter, Campa will relish this opportunity to come out swinging in the biggest fight of his life. However, little indicates that he has what it takes to box at this level, and it would take a miracle for Campa to come out on top.
Fight Score Record
Making his professional debut in 2016, prior to his fight against George Kambosos Jr., Lopez was undefeated across 16 fights.
His first belt came in 2019 when he defeated Richar Commey to claim the IBF lightweight title. Two years ago, he added the WBA, WBO, and the Ring lightweight titles to that collection by topping Vasiliy Lomachenko in a decision.
Twelve of Lopez’s victories have come by knockout, and if it wasn’t for his shock loss last November, the American would have been on track for some much bigger fights. The loss was a setback. However, it’s not fatal for his career, particularly given the choice to step up a weight class.
Pedro Campa has a record of 34-1-1 yet is making his professional debut this weekend. Of his 34 regional wins in Mexico, 23 have come by way of knockout for Campa. After drawing five fights ago, the Mexican is now on a four-fight winning streak and full of confidence heading into his match-up against Lopez.
Lopez vs. Campa Betting Analysis
Teofimo Lopez Analysis
It’s no secret here that Lopez is the better boxer.
Before the first loss of his career, Lopez ended six of his last eight fights by KO or TKO. Even with the step up in weight class, he’s one of the most defensively skilled fighters in the super lightweight category. He has a lethal power punch and also an incredible ability to stay on the outside and box for points.
In his title fight against Lomachenko, Lopez threw 659 punches, landing 183 of them, with a split of 35 jabs and 148 power shots.
Lopez clearly has the skill set to better Campa. It’s simply a question of whether he comes out seeking a quick KO to prove a point or toys with the Mexican for a few rounds, getting reaccustomed to being in the ring.
Pedro Campa Analysis
Campa is more of a stand-in-the-middle and slug kind of fighter.
He has a good chin and will be able to take a few hits from Lopez. Campa also has the ability to throw a decent punch himself, as his 23 knockouts testify. The Mexican veteran will be looking to draw Lopez into a brawl, trading blow for blow and hoping that his power and tenacity win out.
In his recent fights, Campa has primarily thrown power punches. Of his 225 shots landed against Domicio Rondon, 214 were power shots; while in his win over Adrian Perez, all but three were intended to do damage.
