It cannot be overstated enough that the BC Lions have been the best team in Canadian football. In two games, they stand 2-0 and with a point differential of +85 through two games. It does not get much crazier than that!
Rourkemania has taken this league by storm. There has not been a better quarterback than Canadian standout Nathan Rourke in the league.
Rourke leads the league in completion percentage, yards per game, majors scored, a QBR of 147.2, and zero interceptions. Their offense has been incredibly dynamic with Lucky Whitehead and Dominique Rhymes thus far in the year.
Their defense has also been outstanding. In the two games played, they have allowed the least amount of yards per game, one forced fumble per game, four sacks per game, and nine points per game. You truly cannot ask for a much more effective defense than the Lions are showing out thus far.
It still remains to be seen if the Lions can withstand tough competition. Both of the games they dominated, the teams have been less than impressive this season. As great as these stat lines are, there could be a fair bit of skepticism heading into the week four matchup.
Redblacks Content
The Ottawa Redblacks’ record is not very telling of this team’s success. Looking at the standings, they currently reside at 0-2. Do not let this distract you from their solid performances in the first two weeks.
Adding Jeremiah Masoli this offseason has been all the difference for the Redblacks’ offense. He has been a massive impact on this team’s offensive successes. However, he has struggled to find the end zone thus far, recording one major and one interception in two games.
His favorite target Jaelon Acklin has had an amazing start to the season, but the rhythm of this offense has not been consistent. But that was against the top CFL defense.
The Redblacks’ defense deserves major props for their first two games. Facing the defending champs back to back is a difficult challenge for a franchise.
They managed to hold their own by only allowing 19 points per game which in hindsight is not all that much. Although they face another high-powered offense this week, they could prove themselves.
The biggest issue is their inability to find the end zone. If they want to stay close within this contest, they need to score some points. Keeping this game close could be huge for the momentum of this team. The offense cannot consistently leave the defense out to dry. This week is very important for the momentum of this franchise.
