These two divisional foes have faced off three times already this year. As the postseason race heats up, this matchup is ever so crucial. Both teams can make the playoffs because of their respective late-season heroics. But as week 19 looms and two weeks remain, this matchup in the capital just means more!
Week 19 kicks off with the same match that ended in week 18! Eugene Lewis and the Montréal Alouettes (7-8) are heading into Ontario to face off against Avery Williams and the Ottawa Redblacks (4-11).

Alouettes Stats
CFL standings show that last week’s loss was not pretty for Montréal. They failed to capitalize on the chance to clinch a postseason spot and left all the fans in Percival Molson with a sour taste in their mouths. Many of these CFL stats should likely not come as a surprise to fans.
Let’s start with the positive. The offense looks solid. The passing offense has averaged around 250 yards passing. Trevor Harris tossed for over 300 yards yet again versus Ottawa.
Receivers such as Eugene Lewis, the CFL reception leader, make this passing attack that much more lethal. With the return of star power back William Stanback, he should be bulldozing Ottawa as he was last week. Dominique Davis has had the best QB sneak all year, as he is second in rushing TDs. Overall, this is a playoff-ready offense.
The defense is not as good. They struggled all of this year and last weekend especially. They allow upwards of 350 yards from scrimmage and are the second most generous team to the run.
This was true last week as Caleb Evans ran for two touchdowns. The secondary is not as far as yards go. But they have been solid at limiting passing scores. However, this defense has been incredibly inconsistent.
If this club seeks to make a deep playoff run, this rollercoaster of inconsistent play must stop. Prior to this loss, they were riding a three-game win streak. As far as moneyline goes, they have not been great.
They have been on fire, ATS! Looking at the Redblacks vs Alouettes Betting Stats, it is very evident that they have been great ATS as they have covered 66% of the time overall and 71% as the away team. This could be a great opportunity to bet on Montréal.
Redblacks Stats
Could this finally be the turning of the tides for Ottawa? Following their huge win against Montréal, they are still in the fight. They look to avoid elimination as that is going to be a very tough task for them. Ottawa cannot lose at this point. How many fights do they have left?
The amount of yardage their offense has been able to gain in a given game may come to shock you as their offense has been rather productive. They have the number three passing offense, which is shocking. With the QB turnover they have had, Nick Arbuckle has seemed to finally settle in!
Last week he tossed for 229 yards and completed 88% of his passes! His favorite target, Jaelon Acklin, had a quiet outing against Montréal, but he has been huge all year. The rushing attack has been solid as they have the rushing TD leader, Caleb Evans, and star, William Powell. This offense is rather underrated due to their record.
The defense is rather poor as well. They allow the most yards from scrimmage each week in the upper 300-yard range. Last week, they allowed over 330 yards passing alone.
They did force a multitude of fumbles but only recovered one. This is a capable defense, as they allow under 26 points per game. Last week they showed flashes, but they need to stay true if they want this final push!
Ottawa needs to play their heart out if they want to make the postseason. If the Redblacks think they are going to cruise past Montréal, they are sorely mistaken. The poor plays can change and set the tone for next season, as they still need a lot of work.
Looking at the Redblacks vs Alouettes Betting Stats, this has been a brutal team to bet on. They cover the spread 40% of the matches and have yet to win ATS at home this year. This could be a very risky bet.
Matchup Betting Trends
- Montréal is 9-6 ATS
- Ottawa is 6-9 ATS
- The Alouettes are 5-2 ATS away
- The Redblacks are 0-7 ATS at home
- Ottawa currently has the lead in the season series as they lead two games to one
Alouettes vs Redblacks Picks
What do the oddsmakers think of this matchup following last week? The CFL odds currently favor the Montréal Alouettes (-193) in this Friday Night Football match. The Redblacks enter as 4.5-point underdogs.
The CFL pick should not be a shock. It is so evident that the Alouettes will win this matchup. With tight defense play, they can easily outscore the home team. Having such a low spread makes the Alouettes an excellent team to bet on!
Conclusion
This match will be a great way to start off the weekend. With an Alouettes win, they still hold the chance to host the East division title game in Québec.
With a loss, the Als will likely still make the playoffs but will likely not host the East division. With a Redblacks win, they keep those playoff hopes alive, but a loss will just about eliminate them from contention. These games should be exciting.
