Which New Characters Will Appear on Cobra Kai Season 5?
Recently, one of the best series reinvigorating a franchise from the past has been the reboot of Karate Kid on Netflix, 38 years after the original Karate Kid film was released.
Season 5 is set to be released on September 8th, and one of the great things about this series has been its ability to bring back characters from the past. So the question remains: Who will be Cobra Kai season 5 new characters?”
Forty episodes of Cobra Kai are in the books, with season four ending with many questions. Original Karate Kid villain Terry Silver returned with plans to franchise and grow Cobra Kai’s controversial fighting techniques.
Cobra Kai Development
Miguel is off to Mexico to find his biological father, while Johnny and Robby seem on the verge of reconciliation.
The series has done a great job of mixing in the franchise’s past films while developing and growing new characters such as Miguel, Robby, Sam, Tory, and Hawk, including a cast of potential Cobra Kai season 5 new characters.
This character introduction and development continued in season four with the return of Silver, the imprisonment of John Creese, and Daniel Larusso searching out his Karate Kid II nemesis Chozen Toguchi for help bringing an end to Cobra Kai’s influence for good.
Online betting has odds on which Cobra Kai season 5 new characters will make an appearance. Ahead of the season release on Friday, here are the favorites for the new characters that you could expect to see this season:
Characters to Expect this Next Season
Ali Mills (-120)
Elisabeth Shue is a fan favorite from Karate Kid, serving as the love interest that drove the wedge between Daniel and Johnny in the first film.
Shue’s character, Ali Mills, has been a focus of the Cobra Kai reboot: first in discussions between Daniel and Johnny about their past, but then an actual appearance in episode 10 of season three showing up at a Christmas Party.
A favorite at the Odds
The fact that Ali is a -120 favorite to appear as one of Cobra Kai’s season 5 new characters shows how unpredictable this season might be.
Season two ended on a teaser with Johnny sending Ali a Facebook friend request, and the trio was all back together at the end of season three, but Shue had no part of season four. Creators wrote in Shue’s character to be on season three before she approved of the role, but her status is up in the air for season 5.
Snake (Even)
Entering Cobra Kai season 5, there aren’t many characters left that haven’t appeared in the reboot, but one of the big names missing (aside from Hilary Swank) has been Snake, played by Jonathan Advilsen.
Advilsen hasn’t acted since 2002 following his portrayal of “L.A’s Bad Boy” in Karate Kid III, but the fact that he was a Terry Silver henchman in Karate Kid III could lead to a reprisal of the role in Cobra Kai.
Julie Pierce (+175)
Could the Swankster come back as one of Cobra Kai season 5 new characters? Julie was the lead in The Next Karate Kid, and like Daniel Larusso, she saw Mr. Miyagi as a father figure creating a built-in connection.
Swank has three other projects in the production phase following a break during the pandemic, so she wouldn’t play a huge role in returning, but her appearance would still be a nice cap tip to nostalgia that would really tie the Karate Kid franchise together.
Kumiko (+275)
Kumiko was Larusso’s love interest in Karate Kid II, and the fact that Daniel-San was talking to Chozen at the end of Cobra Kai season 4 could mean she would return in season 5.
For those that don’t remember, Kumiko was kidnapped by Chozen in Karate Kid II as blackmail for fighting him to the death in an honor match, in which Larusso had the upper hand in before the famous ‘nose honk’ finale.
Dutch (+550)
Dutch is played by Chad McQueen – the only son of Steve McQueen – and he hasn’t acted since 2001. In season 2, his character referenced him breaking a dartboard at a bar and serving a five to a ten-year prison sentence for a different altercation.
The fact that his character was brought up at all could be pointing towards a Dutch appearance down the line putting some value at the +550 Cobra Kai betting odds ahead of the season premiere.
