OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe are set to clash on Sunday, May 22, during the second week of Call of Duty League (CDL) Major 3 qualifiers. It will mark their first meeting since CoD 2022 Pro-Am quarter-finals, when OpTic won 3-2, and their fifth of the season, all of which ended in OpTic’s favor.
Last game records
OpTic Texas are arguably the strongest team in the league, and while some may argue that Atlanta FaZe are stronger, the head-to-head record would suggest otherwise. OpTic have beaten FaZe in all five head-to-head meetings, including a narrow yet well-deserved 3-2 win at the start of May.
Since that loss, FaZe have played just one game against New York Subliners and won 3-1, so it’s not fair to say that they’re not in good shape. But they’re not nearly as solid as OpTic, who are 4-1 across their last five outings, with their only defeat coming against Los Angeles Thieves in the semis of the Pro-Am CoD tournament.
OpTic vs FaZe Betting Analysis
Even though Atlanta FaZe have yet to win against OpTic Texas, they enter this match as the favorites, priced at around -125 on the esports betting markets. OpTic, on the other side, are priced as -110 underdogs, suggesting that while FaZe should win, it will be a close series.
OpTic Texas
The team are easily one of the top-three teams in the CoD, besides Atlanta FaZe and New York Subliners. But the season is still young, so even though they’ve looked good so far, OpTic still have a lot more to prove before the CoD Champs.
Midway through the 2022 CoD season, OpTic sit in second place in the standings, with a 16-4 series record, a 70% map win rate and 185 points. They’re slightly below FaZe in points, but that’s only because OpTic have not done as well in the Majors.
But even though OpTic have achieved less than FaZe, they’re also 4-0 in the head-to-head with the reigning champions. Over that stretch, OpTic have beaten FaZe with 3-2, 3-0, 5-2, and 3-2.
Atlanta FaZe
Atlanta Faze are the reigning CoD champions and arguably the team with the highest ceiling. They have had a couple of slip-ups this season, but overall, FaZe have been the most consistent and impressive team of 2022.
They lead the league standings with a 56-34 map differential and 190 points, which sits them five above OpTic and 50 above the third-placed London Royal Ravens. Moreover, FaZe have lost just six games since the start of the season, four of which were defeats against OpTic and the remaining two against Los Angeles Guerrillas and Seattle Surge.
FaZe are not playing at 100%, yet they’re still one of the top teams in the league. And with this team, it’s not so much a question of whether they’ll pop off, but rather when. But if last seasons are any indication, the true FaZe should come online later in the year, around the CoD Championship.
Updates
Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal has not been able to help OpTic during the Pro-Am, and he is likely going to miss the second week of the CoD Major 3 qualifiers as well. However, that shouldn’t harm OpTic too much, as they have already found a replacement in Byron “Prolute” Vera.
Atlanta FaZe, meanwhile, have not announced any roster changes for this week’s action.
OpTic vs FaZe Betting Preview
OpTic have established themselves as the superior team of the two, having won all of their last four meetings with Atlanta FaZe. But despite their past success, OpTic enter this match as the underdogs in the CoD esports betting markets. That makes sense since OpTic are without their star player iLLey, but we wouldn’t say that his absence will harm OpTic too much.
As seen over the last couple of weeks, OpTic can hold its own even without iLLey, and even though we must admit that OpTic are slightly weaker with a new addition, the difference is not as noticeable as some expected it to be.
OpTic vs FaZe Betting Prediction
This seems like a complete toss-up game that can end either way. FaZe have yet to defeat OpTic, but all of their last four meetings were extremely close, and knowing that OpTic are now without iLLey, it’s fair to believe that FaZe have a better chance to grab the W.
They might, but FaZe are not a good bet at the offered Esports betting odds. Likewise, it makes no sense to take OpTic at -110 to defeat one of the most stacked teams in the CoD, with the highest ceiling in the league.
How to bet on OpTic vs FaZe
Since this is a complete toss-up, it’s hard to pick a side and predict which squad will come out ahead. We’re leaning more towards OpTic, who are a more appealing bet at higher odds, but for our main Esports picks, we’re looking at the correct score market.
All of the last four meetings between OpTic and FaZe came down to the wire, and we expect another closely-fought affair this weekend. A five-map series is a highly likely outcome, and since we would prefer to be on the side of OpTic in Map 5, a bet on the underdogs to win 3-2 makes the most sense in our book.
Prediction: OpTic Texas to win 3-2
