The BMW PGA Championship returns this week, and we have your BMW PGA Championship picks right here as players will begin action on Thursday at the Wentworth Club in Virginia Water, Surrey, England.
Over four days, players will battle it out in individual stroke play, with the winner crowned on Sunday after the final day.
A strong field of players from the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf Invitational Series are set to tee it up this week, creating some pre-tournament tension between the Tour and LIV players.
The tension will be all the golf community will be talking about leading up to the first round of action on Thursday.
Billy Horschel is back to defend his title after firing a 19 under par last season to defeat a trio of golfers by one stroke.
The win for Horschel was his second of 2021 after winning the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in March.
The 144-man field this week will battle it out for an $8 million dollar purse and 8,000 DP World Tour points. The tournament is one of five yearly Rolex Series events on the schedule.
BMW PGA Championship Betting Odds
You can find golf odds for the tournament at most books already, with additional betting options for the tournament posted as Thursday’s first round nears.
The 2021-22 FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy is the pre-tournament betting favorite at +600. McIlroy roared back at East Lake in Atlanta at the TOUR Championship two weeks ago to claim his third FedEx Cup title finishing atop the PGA standings.
After McIlroy, Jon Rahm is the second favorite with odds of +750. Rahm has had a quiet year so far but did capture a victory at the inaugural Mexico Open earlier this season.
If those two don’t tickle your fancy:
- Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1100)
- Shane Lowry (+1600)
- Viktor Hovland (+2200)
Round the top five betting favorites. Defending champion Horschel (+2500) falls just outside the top five and gives bettors some pre-tournament value for your BMW PGA championship picks.
Horschel finished second in the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai in 2021 and won this year’s Memorial Tournament.
BMW PGA Championship Analysis
The Wentworth Club is a private country club that boasts 63 holes on the property, three 18-hole tracks, and one nine-hole executive course. Play this week will be on the club’s West Course, a par-72 that reads over 7,200 yards in length.
Opened in 1926, the West Course was designed by Harry Colt, with renovations done in 2005 and 2017 under the consultation of Ernie Els.
Parkland-style Golf Course
The parkland-style golf course features tree-lined fairways with numerous holes surrounded by greenside bunkers.
Players must find the fairways off the tee to have any chance at scoring. Accuracy off tee negatives the longer and shorter hitters, as we’ve seen; length hasn’t been a deciding factor in who wins historically.
There are out-of-bounds stakes hugging many of the fairways and water features on a few of the holes that bring in the chance of a large number if players aren’t accurate with their tee shots.
BMW PGA Championship Predictions
The field is deep and talented this week, with golfers from the LIV Invitational Series also teeing it. Thirteen of the top 50 players in the official world golf rankings are expected to be in action this week at Wentworth.
Our BMW PGA Championship picks use historical analysis and current trends to give you the best chance to make some money this week. Below we have three players we like this week to bring home the tournament title.
Rory McIlroy
McIlroy cleaned up at the TOUR Championship two weeks ago to become the first golfer to win the FedEx Cup title three times.
The 33-year-old has a pair of PGA Tour victories this year and sits in first in the DP World Tour Rankings. Even in a talented field, McIlroy is a safe bet to take the title.
Chances to Win: (+600)
Matthew Fitzpatrick
The 2022 U.S. Open champion is third in the DP World Tour Rankings and sits 11th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Fitzpatrick has two top 10 finishes in events on this side of the pond and has six top 25 finishes or better over his last seven events.
Chances to Win: (+1100)
Billy Horschel
Taking Horschel to repeat as the champion is too good to pass up at these golf odds. Horschel wrapped up a 2021-22 season with a T21 at East Lake and has jumped all the way to 15th in the world.
The 35-year-old has had a lot of success when teeing it up internationally, and he’s had the recent form to defend his title this we.
Chances to Win: (+2500 to Win)
