The Genesis Scottish Open begins on Thursday at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. The four-day individual stroke play event is the final opportunity for golfers not already exempt into the Open to earn an opportunity with three spots available. Check the Genesis Scottish Open Betting Odds below.
This year, the tournament is a co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, featuring a blend of the best players from both circuits. The tournament remains one of the five premier events on the DP World Tour as part of the Rolex Series.
Genesis Scottish Open Betting Odds
The top two players in the world are the pre-tournament betting favorites heading into Thursday. Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler are both at +1200 odds to win the event.
Rahm picked up a win at the Mexico Open in May and is coming off a T12 at the US Open, while Scheffler has four wins this year and four-straight finishes of T18 or better.
Roundings out the top-five favorites are Justin Thomas (+1400), Xander Schauffele (+1800), and Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1800). Thomas picked up his second career major at the PGA Championship, and Fitzpatrick became a major champion at the US Open last month.
Since winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with teammate Patrick Cantlay, Schauffele has not finished outside the T18 over five events and picked up a win at the Travelers his last time in action.
International players Cameron Smith (+2500), Viktor Hovland (+3000), Hideki Matsuyama (+3000), and Joaquin Niemann (+4000) are all on the first page of the golf odds board. An international player has won this event for the past six years, and the last American to win the title was Rickie Fowler in 2015.
Genesis Scottish Open Analysis
The Renaissance Club runs along the North Sea on the Scottish coastline and is considered a modern links golf layout. The Tom Doak design stretched over 7,300 yards and plays as a par-70 on the scorecard.
Many of the features at the course you’ll find 20 minutes away at St. Andrews with deep bunker complexes and thick rough. History tells us if the conditions are fair, this course can be scored on, but if the weather acts up, the scoring can be considerably higher. Winning scores have ranged from 22 to 11-under.
Excellent ball-strikers should have a great week regardless of the forecast. Players who rank high in tee-to-green numbers should find success if history is any indicator. The last three tournaments have been determined by a playoff.
Genesis Scottish Open Predictions
Fourteen of the top 15 players in the world are expected to tee it up this week, making it the strongest field in the history of the Scottish Open.
The field will be made up of 75 players from the PGA Tour and 75 players from the DP World Tour. Players who’ve had historical success on links courses will be our targets this week.
Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1800)
For our main golf prediction, we have to go with Fitzpatrick. He was a runner-up here last year, losing to Min Woo Lee on the first hole of a playoff.
The 27-year-old is now a major champion and is now the tenth-ranked player in the world.
A T14 at Augusta and T5 at the PGA Championship shows the English golfer rises to the occasion against the world’s best.
Collin Morikawa (+2800)
The defending Open champion came across the pond last year and took home the Claret Jug in his first attempt. Morikawa, a two-time major champion, has had a quiet 2022, but a T5, last time out at the US Open, shows promise. We like the value here.
Jordan Spieth (+3000)
After a disappointing week at the Travelers, where he missed the cut, Spieth returns across the pond, where he has had a ton of success.
The 2017 Open champion and runner-up last year, the 28-year-old has shown he is comfortable playing this type of golf. Spieth will need to get the putter going if he wants to contend, but he’s got the skills to do it.
Billy Horschel (+230 to finish T20 or better)
Horschel has appeared just once since winning the Memorial, missing the cut at the U.S. Open. One of the best iron players in the game, Horschel has had success in Europe with a pair of DP World Tour wins.
The 35-year-old should again be a factor in Scotland, and the value for this finish is too good to pass up. One of the better golf picks you can make for this tournament.
Justin Rose (+280 to finish T20 or better)
The 41-year-old might be on the downswing of his career, but there is still a lot left in the tank for the major winner. Rose won this tournament in 2014 and has five top-25 finishes this season on the PGA Tour.
