The Memorial Tournament presented by Workday is back this week for the 46th edition of the golf tournament founded by Jack Nicklaus. Check the The Memorial Tournament Odds below.
Tournament play begins on Thursday, June 2nd, and concludes on Sunday, June 5th, in Dublin, Ohio, a suburb community of Columbus. This event is one of the longest-running tournaments played annually at the same golf course.
The Memorial Tournament Odds
Jon Rahm (+800) enters the week as the pre-tournament favorite. Rahm won this event in 2020 and was well on his way to back-to-back victories before a positive COVID-19 test forced Rahm to withdraw following the third round with a six-shot lead.
Trailing Rahm is last year’s champion Patrick Cantlay. Cantlay (+1000) has shown to enjoy Jack’s Place, winning the event twice in the last three seasons. Rory McIlroy (+1100) follows Cantlay, trying to win at Muirfield Village for the first time in his career.
Xander Schauffele (+1600) and Collin Morikawa (+1800) round out the top five pre-tournament favorites. After a missed cut at the Masters, Schauffele teamed up with Cantlay to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and went T5 and T13 in his two individual tournaments played after. Morikawa, a two-time major winner, lost to Cantlay in a playoff here last year.
The Memorial Tournament Analysis
Muirfield Village Golf Course can play over 7,600 yards now and is a traditional par-72 layout. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened its doors in 1974, and has served as the host of the Memorial Tournament since its inception in 1976.
Ranked as one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour slate, the course has gone through renovations over the years to provide even a tougher test for players.
Notable changes that began in 2020 include irrigation system updates, new and lengthed tee boxes, and reshaped bunkers and green complexes. All the changes made to the course were implemented by Nicklaus himself.
The course is a champion layout, so players need to come with every shot in their bag. Past winners haven’t set themselves apart from the field in one area but possess an overall game above the rest. A noted trend is course history, with many of the past winners playing on the weekend the previous year.
The Memorial Tournament Predictions
Sam Burns defeated Scottie Scheffler in a playoff last week in Fort Worth to claim his third victory this season. Those two didn’t make the trip to Ohio, but we have our favorite golf picks of outright winners and position finishes listed below.
Jon Rahm (+900) – Taking the chalk play here. Rahm should be teeing it up this week as a two-time winner of this event. With already a win under his belt this year, expect Rahm to shake off underwhelming performances at the first majors and make some noise this week.
Collin Morikawa (+1100) – Morikawa has been quiet since a run of five straight top-10 finishes earlier this season. The putter has been a concern for Morikawa recently, but the two-time major winner knows the course and has the skills to take home the title.
Max Homa (+4000) – This week’s darkhorse, Homa, is our guy that’s worth a look for the value. Four top-25 finishes in a row, including a victory at the Wells Fargo, tells us the game is there to become a three-time winner this season.
Tom Hoge (+275 to finish T20 or better) – Hoge missed the cut here the last two seasons but finished T13 in 2019, his first Memorial Tournament appearance. The ninth-ranked player in the current FedEx Cup standings has eight top-25 finishes this season, including four top-10s. He didn’t make the weekend last week at the Charles Schwab, but a T9 and T17 in previous tournaments shows the form is there.
Sahith Theegala (+260 to finish T40 or better) – Theegala finished T32 on his first trip to MVGC last season. He’s cashed in on 17 of 22 starts this year, six of those events finishing inside the top-25. Take the plus-money here and watch the 24-year-old reward you this week.
