After a week off for the Presidents Cup, the PGA schedule picks back up for the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. We bring you the Sanderson Farms Championship preview and provide you with all the information you need to know.
The tournament has been on the PGA Tour schedule since 1968 and has been played annually since. The first round of the four-day event begins on Thursday, September 29th, and ends on Sunday, October 2nd.
Sam Burns is the defending champion and returns to Jackson to defend his title after debuting in his first Presidents Cup.
Burns picked up win number one of three during the 2021-2022 season after posting a 22-under over four days. Nick Watney and Cameron Young tied for second, one-back of Burns’ total.
This week the prize purse for the tournament is $7.9 million dollars, a boost of nearly $1 million from last year, with the winner taking home $1.422 million of the total.
The winner also earns 500 FedEx Cup points and a two-year exemption on Tour and exemptions into all major tournaments next season.
Sanderson Farms Championship Betting Odds
The best way to start with a Sanderson Farms Championship preview is to take a look at the betting odds. Burns heads into Thursday’s first round with the best golf odds as a +1100 favorite. The 25-year-old went on to pick up two more wins this year, including a repeat victory at the Valspar Championship.
J.T. Poston (+1600) trails behind Burns as the next best bet. Poston added a second PGA Tour title to his resume this summer at the John Deere Classic.
Denny McCarthy (+1800), Sahith Theegala (+2000), and Russell Henley (+2200) round out the top 5 pre-tournament betting favorites. Theegala was one of the top storylines in 2022, earning a trip to the TOUR Championship in his rookie season.
Mississippi-native Davis Riley (+3500) will have a large gathering during the first two rounds and hopefully into the weekend. Riley has played in this event three times, making the cut in 2019 and missing the cut in the last two events.
Sanderson Farms Championship Betting Analysis
The Sanderson Farms Championship preview looks at the par-72, 7,400-yard Country Club of Jackson. The course was founded 108 years ago in 1914 with names like Bob Hope, Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus, and Lee Trevino, having played the golf course.
John Fought came in and did a redesign of 18 of the 27 holes on the property in 2008. Fought tapped into the mind of the famous golf course architect Donald Ross, creating a challenging property with his staple small green complexes.
Sanderson Farms Championship Picks
We have put together our favorite Sanderson Farms Championship picks and golf predictions as we near the opening round of the tournament. Here are some of our best bets and prop wagers with their golf odds.
Sam Burns (+1100 to win)
We witnessed Max Homa run it back last week in Napa at the Fortnite Championship. Burns defended his title earlier this year at the Valspar and came to Jackson after hoisting the Presidents Cup trophy with his American teammates.
Sahith Theegala (+2000 to win)
Theegala took the PGA Tour by storm during his rookie season with five top-10 finishes. The 24-year-old followed it up two weeks ago with a T6 in Napa to kick off the new season. Theegala held the 54-hole lead here last year before finishing tied for eighth.
Thomas Detry (+4000 to win)
A mainstay on the DP World Tour, Detry is still searching for his first professional win on one of the major tours. The University of Illinois alum comes into the week in great form after a T12 in Napa and a T5 at the BMW PGA Championship.
Tournament Matchup: Davis Riley (-105) over Chris Kirk
The Mississippi native has struggled the past two seasons in Jackson, but Riley put together a respectable campaign last year and can feed off the momentum and home crowd to capture a top finish.
Tournament Matchup: Sahith Theegala (-120) over Denny McCarthy
Theegala made some noise here last year and parlayed that into a memorable rookie season. McCarthy is solid, but the well-rounded Theegala comes into looking for another top-10 finish.
