Pinehurst Presents Challenge for World’s Best
The 2024 U.S. Open heads to Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C., with Scottie Scheffler a heavy favorite. Scheffler is seeking his second victory in a major this year and sixth win overall. He is coming off a first-place finish at the Memorial Tournament (-8).
Five other golfers are priced 20/1 or better, though nobody is remotely close to Scheffler. The reigning Masters champion is -140 to finish in the Top 5 – the only golfer with better than plus odds – and -275 to place Top 10.
Defending champion Wyndham Clark comes in at +6600 to win.
This is the tournament’s first time at Pinehurst since 2014 when German Martin Kaymer posted a wire-to-wire victory at 9-under. Only three golfers finished below par for the tournament.
Here are the odds to help you bet on U.S. Open winner.

U.S. Open Betting Analysis
It’s clearly Scheffler’s tournament to lose. The world No. 1 is as big a favorite on the U.S. Open PGA odds board as we’ve seen in a major in more than a decade (more on that later). He already has five victories this season, including nine top-5 finishes. His only tournament outside the top 10 was the American Express in La Quinta, Calif., in which he placed 17th.
Nine golfers are priced 25/1 or better.
Keep that in mind when placing your bet on the U.S. Open winner.
U.S. Open Previous winners and Betting Trends
Year | Winner | Location |
---|---|---|
2023 | Wyndham Clark | Los Angeles Country Club; Los Angeles |
2022 | Matt Fitzpatrick | The Country Club; Brookline, Mass. |
2021 | Jon Rahm | Torrey Pines; San Diego |
2020 | Game 4 Bryson DeChambeau | Winged Foot Golf Club; Mamaroneck, N.Y. |
2019 | Gary Woodland | Pebble Beach Golf Links; Pebble Beach, Calif. |
Clark, who carded a 10-under 270 to edge McIlroy at Los Angeles Country Club, is seeking to become the first repeat champion since Koepka in 2017 and 2018. Despite his past success at Pinebrook, Clark is a smidge down the Golf odds board at +6600.
Clark isn’t inspiring much confidence these days. He’s missed the cut at three of his last five tournaments, including frustrating showings at the PGA Championship (+4) and the Memorial (+5).
Then again, nobody is remotely close to Scheffler. Scheffler is a runaway favorite at +300. In fact, according to Action Network, Tiger Woods is the only golfer to ever have shorter Golf odds in a major. The last time Woods had odds this low was the 2009 PGA Championship (+180).
Woods, by the way, is a +30000 longshot to win this year.
Be sure to take those U.S. Open betting tips into account.
U.S. Open Betting Picks
Scheffler is the best golfer in the field, and while he’ll undoubtedly be a popular pick, he simply does not offer enough juice at +300.
Scheffler, with five victories in his last eight tournaments, is playing at a level the golfing world hasn’t seen since Woods.
For bettors seeking more bang for their buck, consider McIlroy at +1100. McIlroy has seven Top-10 finishes in his last 10 majors, including two runner-ups and – just as impressively – only one missed cut.
That’s important to remember when placing your bet on U.S. Open winner.
