AL Seeks to Build on Recent Success
The NL rallied in the eighth inning of last year’s game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, plating two runs on a homer by Rockies catcher Elias Diaz to win 3-2. In the process, they ended a nine-game losing streak in the Midsummer Classic.
Because of that recent success, the AL is a slight betting favorite at -122. It is also +1.5 (-205) on the run line. Four of the last six All-Star Games have been decided by a single run, so there’s some risk in taking the run line, The projected total of 7.5 has hit just twice since 2016.
Be sure to keep that in mind when assessing our MLB All-Star Game betting tips.
AL vs. NL Betting Preview
Judge Powers AL
The most thunderous slugger in this year’s game is Judge, who leads MLB stats in home runs (34), RBI (85) and OPS (1.112). Judge will likely only play a few innings, as is customary for starters, but he can do some real damage. Oddsmakers seem to agree, listing him as the second-biggest favorite to win MVP behind Ohtani. Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson (+1300) and Yankees outfielder Juan Soto (+1400) round out the top five.
Skenes’ Rise Continues
Skenes becomes the fifth rookie pitcher to start the All-Star Game, joining Dave Stenhouse (1962), Mark Fidrych (1976), Fernando Valenzuela (1981), and Hideo Nomo (1995). The Pirates phenom has made a meteoric rise, starring in the majors barely a year after he was drafted first overall. He’s allowed two runs or fewer in nine of his first 11 starts while striking out 89 in just 66.2 innings.
Skenes has the best odds of any pitcher (+3500) to win MVP, though he will likely throw only one inning. Only two pitchers since 2000 have taken home the award: Mariano Rivera (2013) and Shane Bieber (2019).
That’s important to remember when making your MLB picks and parlays.

Odds show that the AL is a slight -122 favorite to win the game. The AL is also +1.5 on the run line, though that doesn’t offer much value at -205 odds. For that to hit, the AL must either win or lose by no more than one run.
It outscored the NL by just 18 runs during its nine-game winning streak, with two games decided in extra innings (2017, 2018). The tendency for these games to be close should give bettors some pause when assessing the run line.

AL vs. NL Final Score Prediction
The All-Star Game is traditionally low-scoring, with the Under hitting in 13 of the last 17 instances. That, of course, includes last year when the NL won 3-2 on a two-run homer by Diaz.
Neither side has any real incentive to win – besides bragging rights – so betting on the run line/moneyline could be tricky. That’s why we’re instead eying the total.
With that in mind, we’re siding with recent trends and siding with the Under of 7.5 at -120 odds for our MLB All Star Game Betting Predictions.
