After losing consecutive games for the first time since early April, the New York Yankees continue a seven-contest homestand on Monday when they clash with the American League East rival Baltimore Orioles. In a four-game bill that came to a close last Thursday, the Yanks took three from the O’s. This is the fourth series between this team already in 2022.
The Yankees (29-12) just dropped two of three in an interesting series with the Chicago White Sox. Still, they lead Tampa Bay in the division by a five-game margin.
The Orioles (17-25) find themselves on the opposite end of the grouping. They’ve come out on the wrong side of seven of their last 10 and have gone 6-12 against AL East foes this season.
Of those who have played in at least nine of Baltimore’s 10 meetings with the Yankees, left fielder Austin Hays has had the most success in the batter’s box. He sports a .371 average in 35 plate appearances and has also scored seven runs.
Designated hitter Trey Mancini, who has a .297 average so far, has been on a mission at the dish recently. He has 10 hits in 27 at-bats over the last week. He also paces the club with a .365 on-base percentage.
There’s room for improvement for the offense, which grades out with the 23rd best overall average up to this point. Orioles batters haven’t always had the best contact, either, having fanned more than any other AL team.
Orioles at Yankees Odds
MLB odds have the Yankees favored to avoid a three-game skid. New York is -1.5 on the run line at -142, while the Orioles are +118 to cover the spread.
On the moneyline, the Yankees are -335 and Baltimore a +270 underdog. The total has been set at 7.5 runs, with the over being -120 and the under -102 at the time of this writing.
MLB betting trends lean toward the Yankees, as they possess some of the best power-hitting in the bigs. The Bronx Bombers are living up to their nickname, ranking second in the MLB with 57 home runs. Along with that, they have a .415 slugging percentage.
Right fielder Aaron Judge has belted 15 long balls, accounting for over a quarter of New York’s production in that category. Of the half-dozen players in the AL that have gone yard at least 10 times, three are Yankees – the others being designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (11) and first baseman Anthony Rizzo (10).
Judge also leads the squad with a .318 batting average and a .389 on-base percentage.

Orioles at Yankees Betting Preview
Gerrit Cole will be handed the start at Yankee Stadium with a spotless 4-0 record.
He’s punched out at least six batters in a game on five occasions thus far. Last time out, in a 3-2 triumph at Baltimore, he came one short of that mark, but only gave up two earned runs in a seven-inning effort. New York has come out on the right side in his last six outings.
Jordan Lyles will be his counterpart, having posted a 4.11 ERA. He matched Cole’s seven frames last Wednesday and kept the Yankees’ bats at bay, conceding five hits and no dingers.
If he can keep New York’s lineup from clubbing the ball over the outfield fence, the Orioles may have a fighting chance against the Pinstripes, who have the most wins in the league.
Orioles at Yankees Betting Predictions
These MLB picks today largely depend on whether Lyles can keep home runs to a minimum. The Yankees are one of the most adept scoring teams there are, and avoiding quick runs could help his case.
Go with the Orioles to start out on the right foot in this series. They haven’t had the best go of it against New York, but Lyles might have an idea of how to stem the Yankees’ lumber. This one will be a pitcher’s duel, with Baltimore scoring the victory.
