The Yankees (28-10) have come out on top in nine of their last 11 contests. Three of those wins came in a four-game bill against the White Sox a week ago. New York leads the AL East by five games.
Chicago (19-19) has emerged victorious from three of their last five, all against divisional foe Kansas City. The White Sox trail only the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central.
Shortstop Tim Anderson leads the charge for Chicago at the plate, hitting for a .346 average – the fifth-best in the league. Center fielder Luis Robert paces the crew with six dingers and 17 RBIs. Left fielder A.J. Pollock has been a sizable contributor over the past week, as well.
White Sox at Yankees Odds
MLB odds have the Yankees as the favorites in this matchup. New York is -1.5 on the run line at +100, while the White Sox are -120 to cover the spread.
On the money line, the Yankees are -205 and Chicago a +172 underdog. The total has been set at 8.5 runs, with the over being -112 and the under -108 at the time of this writing.
The Yankees are among the best offensive squads in the majors. New York has racked up the second-most runs in the AL (187), along with having the third-highest home run total (55) and the second-best batting average (.245).
One pair, in particular, has been the engine that makes the Bronx Bombers go.
Right fielder Aaron Judge paces his team with a .307 average at the plate and 14 homers, the most in the MLB. Only four other players have more than his 30 RBIs.
Designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is one of those individuals. He’s driven in 35 runs to go along with his .563 slugging percentage.
White Sox at Yankees Betting Preview
The away team will trot out 11th-year lefty Dallas Keuchel, who has turned in a 5.54 ERA and 2-3 record to this point. Though he hasn’t particularly shut batters down, he played a good part in the White Sox’ victory over the Yanks in his last outing. In five frames of work, he only let up four hits and no runs.
In his last 11 innings pitched, he’s only given up two scores. Chicago has won his last pair of starts on the hill.
In all, though, the White Sox have been pretty average on the rubber. The South Siders rank 13th in the bigs with a 3.71 ERA and 25th with a 1.32 WHIP.
MLB betting trends will point to Keuchel’s counterpart in this one, the Yankees’ Nestor Cortes. A fifth-year southpaw, he’s one of the reasons why New York has the best statistical pitching staff in the AL. Cortes is the owner of the lowest ERA (1.35) in the major leagues.
The last time Cortes opened as a hurler; he threw eight innings in a 5-1 win over Chicago. In that performance, he allowed only three knocks and one earned run. He fanned seven.
For his career, Cortes has a 4.03 ERA.
White Sox at Yankees Betting Predictions
Not since the campaign’s first week have the Yankees lost consecutive contests. After losing at Baltimore Thursday, New York will look to rebound in a similar manner as they have in prior defeats.
Chicago’s Keuchel isn’t the force he used to be, and facing a lineup as dangerous as the Yankees won’t help his cause. The combination of Cortes’ effective arm, Judge and company’s lumber, and a friendly crowd will prevail in the opener of the teams’ second series in 2022.
This makes for one of the safer MLB picks today. New York will once again sidestep a second-straight loss and keep on rolling. Now would be a good time to bet on the Yankees to cover the spread.
