Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Odds, Picks, and Predictions
The Los Angeles Angels welcome in the Seattle Mariners to start a three-game slate on Monday night. As of late, the Halos have been playing some of their baseball since early in the season, and they’ll want to keep it up against a familiar foe.
Matchup Information
Three-Game Slate
The Angels (51-64) are 23.5 games out of first place in the American League West but still have a glimmer of a chance to reach the postseason.
That would require them to overcome a 10-game deficit in the league’s wild-card race. Five other teams:
- Baltimore
- Minnesota
- Chicago
- Boston
- Texas
Are closer in line than Los Angeles is. Seattle (62-54) currently holds a seat at the playoff table, as they possess the AL’s second wild-card spot. They’ve done just as well on the road as they have at home throughout the course of this year.
Offensive Trio
The offensive trio of:
- first baseman Ty France
- third baseman Eugenio Suarez
- rookie center fielder Julio Rodriguez
Mariners’ Engine
Has been the Mariners’ engine this season. France has hit .291 on the season and has a .362 on-base percentage.
Suarez has 19 home runs and 61 RBIs. Rodriguez follows closely behind with 18 long balls and has also came across the most for Seattle.
For a club that hasn’t reached the postseason in two decades, those three players have been godsends.
Angels vs. Mariners Odds
Mariners vs Angels odds for today favor the guests. Seattle is -1.5 on the run line at +164, while the Angels are -200 to cover the spread.
On the moneyline, the Mariners are -104 and Los Angeles -112. The total has been set at seven runs, with the over being +100 and the under -122 at the time of this writing.
The Halos have hit .227 as a team, while right fielder Taylor Ward paces the team with a .266 batting average.
He’s also one of four hitters — along with:
- Shohei Ohtani
- Mike Trout
- Jared Walsh
To have clubbed double-digit homers this campaign. Ohtani, who’s in the race for the AL MVP, has a team-high 26, along with 68 RBIs. He also has the most total hits (105) of any Angel.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Betting Preview
The two-way star Ohtani will also be making the start on the mound for the home team. He has a 10-7 record to this juncture, along with a 2.68 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. His 157 total strikeouts rank within the major leagues’ top 10.
Two-Way Star Ohtani
At one time in June and July, Los Angeles registered six consecutive wins with Ohtani on the bump. He recently put a stop to a rough patch in which the Angels lost three of his starts in a row.
In that last outing at Oakland on Tuesday, Ohtani pitched six innings, allowing just four hits while keeping the Athletics scoreless.
That stat line looked similar to the one time he squared off with Seattle this year — in June — when he went the same distance and blanked the Mariners on three hits.
Luis Castillo Analysis
Right-gander Luis Castillo, a coveted deadline acquisition, will go for the visitors. He’s 5-4, with a 2.71 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.
In both of his appearances for Seattle thus far, Castillo shut down the New York Yankees. It will be interesting to see what he does against Los Angeles’ lineup.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners Picks and Predictions
Runs will very likely be at a premium in this one, considering the strong pitching matchup. It will all boil down to whether or not you think Ohtani can quiet the Mariners’ trio of batters or not.
We say he finds a way. Ohtani has demonstrated the ability to put his team on his back on multiple occasions.
To do so against such an effective hurler would be huge for the Angels, who are barely hanging onto their playoff hopes, even with a month and a half to go. Take Los Angeles to stay close and at least cover the spread.
MLB Pick: Angels -1.5 (+180)
