Mets vs Mariners Preview with Pick
The New York Mets wrap up their 10-game road trip with a three-game set in Seattle. Left-hander Jose Quintana (6-7, 3.95 ERA) opposes righty Bryce Miller (8-7, 3.62 ERA) in Friday’s series opener, with New York seeking to strengthen its playoff positioning in the National League.
The Mets leapfrogged Atlanta for the third wild card slot in the NL following Thursday’s 9-1 win over Colorado. They are 4-3 on this trip which also included stops in Los Angeles and St. Louis.

Meanwhile, Seattle is tied with Houston atop the American League West but narrowly avoiding getting swept by Detroit at home. The Seattle Mariners rallied for three runs in the ninth inning for a dramatic 4-3 win on Thursday, halting their three-game losing skid.

Mets vs Mariners Odds
Before our Mets betting analysis and Mariners game predictions, the updated MLB odds:
Oddsmakers have installed the Mariners as slight -122 favorites, which isn’t surprising considering they’re at home and have one of their more reliable pitchers starting. Seattle’s 34 home wins are tied for third-most in the AL.
The Mariners have struggled against southpaws (.212 AVG, .661 OPS), though they are 16-14 when their opponent starts a left-hander.

Mets vs Mariners Betting Preview
Starting Pitchers
Jose Quintana (NYM)
- If Quintana’s August is anything like his July, the Mets are in good hands.
- The veteran left-hander was terrific last month, registering a 2.05 ERA across five starts.
- He allowed one run or fewer in four of these outings, helping the Mets climb back into the playoff hunt.
- New York is now priced +105 to make the postseason.
Bryce Miller (SEA)
- Like Quintana, Miller dominated in July to the tune of a 1.80 ERA in four starts.
- He struck out 18 while walking just one across 25 innings.
- In his last start, giving up four runs in 4.1 innings against Philadelphia, but his overall body of work against MLB teams is impressive.
- He ranks 14th in the majors with a 1.05 WHIP.
Mets Seek Strong Finish Out West
Key Injuries:
New York’s patchwork bullpen could get a big lift, with right-hander Reed Garrett (elbow) expected to be activated sometime this weekend. Garrett – who hasn’t pitched since July 9 – has a 3.64 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 42 innings. Fellow relievers Brooks Raley (elbow) and Drew Smith (elbow) are out for the season.
Betting Trends:
The New York Mets have gone Under the total in five straight games and are 58-53-4 against the Over/Under.
Mariners Hope Comeback Spurs Momentum
Key Injuries:
Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez (ankle) resumed swinging a bat this week after landing on the IL on July 23. Rodriguez – who has 11 homers and a .687 OPS – also started running again, though there’s a strong chance he’ll need a rehab assignment before returning to Seattle’s lineup. The Mariners also remain without shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger).
Betting Trends:
Seattle has produced an MLB-worst 48-68 record against the run line, covering at a rate of only 41.4%. That includes a mark of 23-37 at home. That’s important to remember when making your MLB picks and parlays.

Mariners Poised to Stymie Mets
The Mets have taken over an NL playoff spot, though it remains to be seen whether they’ll do enough to hold off Atlanta. Dropping two of three to the Angels to begin this lengthy road trip didn’t offer much optimism, though they’re 3-1 since.
We’re taking the Seattle ML (-122) for our MLB pick, as the Mariners’ pitching depth makes the difference.
