Phillies at Brewers Betting Analysis
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies find themselves in third place in a National League East division that has been dominated by the New York Mets, who have the NL’s best record since the onset of the season.
However, they have shown some promising signs as of late, winning four straight games, three against the freefalling but still overwhelmingly talented Los Angeles Angels, and one against the formidable San Francisco Giants that would likely be leading most other divisions if they were not plagued by the competition of the NL West.
Phili’s last win, a 9-7 result over the Angels, came on the back of three runs scored in the bottom of the ninth inning via a Bryson Stott walk-off.
Bryce Harper, the reigning National League Most Valuable Player, leads the Phillies with a .309 batting average and 40 RBIs and is second on the team with 13 home runs; the leader in long shots is Kyle Schwarber, whose 14 are tied for the fifth-most in all of baseball.
Schwarber has also hit three home runs in four games this month, setting him down the road for success against the Brewers.
Unfortunately for Philadelphia bettors, Harper and Schwarber have largely been left to fend for themselves; even marquee signing Nick Castellanos has failed to set the world alight, and until he or some other hitter does, they are unlikely to climb that far past .500.
Ranger Suarez (4-3, 4.69 ERA) will be on the mound for the Phillies after giving up two earned runs in 4.1 innings to the San Francisco Giants in his last start.
Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers lead the National League Central, a division that MLB odds projected they were overwhelmingly expected to snatch the pennant in; however, they are facing serious pressure from the St. Louis Cardinals, who are just a half-game behind the Brew Crew.
This has largely been a product of Milwaukee’s poor recent performances, which have led to three straight losses and five losses in six games.
One of the biggest problems during Milwaukee’s poor recent stretch, which was always projected to derail them at some point, is the team’s offense, which lacks both consistency and explosion.
Rowdy Tellez tops the team charts with a .249 batting average, marking one of the worst team lads in the MLB, and also holds the high mark for home runs (10).
The Brewers are still practically guaranteed to stay above .500 because of their bullpen, but the MLB betting trends will likely adjust to their recent lull until they show an ability to get their offense together.
Jason Alexander (0-0, 2.57 ERA) will make his second major-league start of the season after allowing two earned runs in seven innings against the Giants in his last start. More importantly, however, the Brewers’ offense will look to get back on track after being shut out twice in the team’s last three games.
Updates
The Phillies will look to keep winning after firing manager Joe Girardi four days ago.
The Brewers, meanwhile, have their management in order but will be without Hunter Renfroe, Willy Adames, Luis Urias, and Omar Narvaez, all of whom are on the COVID-19/injured list.
Phillies at Brewers Betting Preview
Both teams have -108 odds of winning on the moneyline; Phili is a -1.5 (+152) favorite on the runline, while Milwaukee is a +1.5 (-184) underdog.
The points total has been set at 8.5 with (-112) odds on the over and (-108) on the under.
Phillies at Brewers Betting Prediction
The Phillies are still far from a great long-term investment, but they are playing well and have the offense that could pose problems to the Brewers.
Milwaukee’s usual advantage comes from its bullpen, but with the unproven Alexander on the mound against a veteran Suarez, even this is negligible.
All in all, Philadelphia is the clear best bet in MLB picks today.
