For the first of a three-game interleague bill, the Philadelphia Phillies will make their way across the country to face off against the Seattle Mariners. This will be these teams’ first encounter this season.
Neither team has had an easy go of it to this point. This one will be an opportunity for one squad to warm up.
The Mariners (13-16) snapped a six-game skid by salvaging the last leg of a four-game series against Tampa Bay in 10 innings Sunday. At the moment, they’re looking up at the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros in the American League West standings.
Philadelphia (12-16) hasn’t been on much of a tear lately, either. The Phillies have dropped five of six, including a 6-1 defeat in the cap of a Sunday doubleheader with the National League East foe New York Mets.
If not for the Washington Nationals, Philly would be at the bottom of the grouping.
Third baseman Alec Bohm is the lone Phillies batter with a season average above .300. Over the last week, second baseman Jean Segura registered six knocks in 16 at-bats.
Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber has posted seven home runs, while right fielder and reigning league MVP Bryce Harper has 19 RBIs.
Phillies at Mariners Odds
The Mariners are favored to continue to wiggle out of their recent slump, MLB odds indicate. Seattle is -1.5 on the run line at +184, while the Phillies are -225 to cover the spread.
On the moneyline, the Mariners are -120, and Philly is a +102 underdog. The total has been set at 7.5 runs, with the over being -106 and the under -114 at the time of this writing.
Philadelphia’s offense has been considerably more lively than the hosts, making these MLB expert picks a little harder. Could it be that the distance of traveling cools the Phillies’ bats?
Seattle sports a pair of consistent hitters in shortstop J.P. Crawford and third baseman Ty France, who both have averages of at least .319. The team is hitting .230 as a whole.
With MLB betting trends, keep in mind that both squads have plated around the same amount of runs. It’s likely this one remains close.

Phillies at Mariners Betting Preview
On the bump for the Mariners, fifth-year right-hander Chris Flexen has helped his team to victory only once in five starts, that being against Kansas City on April 22. He’s allowed at least five hits in four of those outings.
He boasts a run-of-the-mill 3.20 ERA and has fanned 17 hitters. Against some impressive challengers, he’ll be trying for another extended showing.
Lefty Ranger Suarez would like to have a say in these MLB betting picks. He hasn’t had the most success on the hill yet, but the Phillies have won four of his starts.
He would like to keep up with allowing three earned runs or less per contest, which is something he’s accomplished in each appearance in 2022.
He’s K’d 15 in 23.1 frames of work and has a career ERA of 2.88 in 88 career appearances.
Phillies at Mariners Picks and Predictions
While this one has the chance to go either way, I can’t really see why Seattle seemingly has the upper hand. This makes this clash one of the more interesting MLB picks today.
Against an order that hasn’t particularly turned heads, look for Suarez to begin a sort of return to last year’s form when he turned in an impressive 1.36 ERA. It seems that he should have his teammates’ trust with how previous games have gone with him on the mound.
That being said, such an instance is what Suarez and his team needs. He’ll provide the spark for the Phillies to pick up a win in a different time zone.
In a pairing of two reeling clubs, Philly will get the ball rolling at the Mariners’ expense. The Phillies are better than their record suggests, and it’ll show here.
Take them as underdogs (+102) and the over (-106).
