Phillies vs Mariners Preview with Pick
The Phillies, losers of four straight and six of their last eight, visit the Seattle Mariners on Friday (9:40 p.m. ET) to begin a 10-game road trip. Rookie Tyler Phillips will make his fourth Major League start for Philadelphia against fellow right-hander Bryan Woo.
Philadelphia still owns baseball’s best record at 65-43, but its National League East lead has been sliced to 6.5 games during its recent skid. Following a three-game sweep at the hands of the Yankees, star first baseman Bryce Harper implored his team to “cowboy up and play the right way.”
Seattle, meanwhile, is tied with the Astros atop the American League West after dropping two of three in Boston to fall to 57-53. That includes 5-7 since the All-Star break.
This begins a nine-game homestand that’ll also include a series against the Tigers and Mets.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Seattle Mariners Odds
Before our Phillies betting analysis and Mariners game predictions, the updated MLB odds:
Oddsmakers have installed the Phillies as +100 underdogs, which makes sense considering they’ve lost seven of their last 10 and are just 3-9 since the break. In their previous 15 instances as underdogs, the Phillies are 7-8.
Seattle dropped five of six against the Astros and Angels at T-Mobile Park to open the second half but is still 31-23 in its home digs.
Both starting pitchers are relatively unproven, though Phillips tossed a four-hit shutout in his last outing, Saturday against Cleveland. He’s holding opposing batters to a .195 average.
The projected total of 7.5 speaks to oddsmakers’ confidence in his arsenal. Be sure to remember that when assessing our Phillies-Mariners betting tips.

Philadelphia Phillies vs Seattle Mariners Betting Preview
Starting Pitchers
Tyler Phillips (PHI)
- Phillips has been an instant hit, pitching to a 1.80 ERA over his first four appearances (three starts).
- He shut out AL Central-leading Cleveland in his last start and has not allowed a run in his last 18 innings.
- He’s recorded 19 strikeouts compared to just two walks.
Bryan Woo (SEA)
- Woo threw four shutout innings against the White Sox on Saturday.
- He lowered his ERA to 4.15 across three appearances in July.
- This comes after the 24-year-old right-hander missed two weeks with a right hamstring strain.
Phillies Turn to Promising Rookie to Right Ship
Key Injuries:
Left-hander Ranger Suarez has been on the injured list since July 27 because of lower back soreness. Suarez was named a first-time All-Star after going 10-5 with a 2.87 ERA.
Betting Trends:
The Philadelphia Phillies have failed to cover in 10 of their last 13 games and are 54-54 against the run line. That includes 25-24 away from home.
Mariners Look To Keep Pace Atop Division
Woo’s gone fewer than five innings in four of his last five appearances, though he should be stretched out after throwing 70 pitches against Chicago.
Key Injuries:
Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez (ankle) has begun some light baseball activities but is still without a timetable for a return. Rodriguez was struggling before the injury, hitting just 11 homers for a .687 OPS.
Betting Trends:
The Seattle Mariners are an MLB-worst 47-63 against the run line, including 5-10 over their last 15 games. Their record against the Over/Under isn’t much better at 47-58-5. Those are important to keep in mind when analyzing our Phillies-Mariners betting tips.
Phillies Riding Hot Hand
Sure, the Phillies are struggling. But as the old baseball adage goes, a team is only as good as the next day’s starting pitcher.
Fortunately for Philadelphia, that’s Phillips, who is coming off a sensational outing against the Guardians, the majors’ best team at 65-42.
Seattle may be in first, but rarely do we get the Phillies at plus money. This is one of those times, and we’re going to capitalize by taking them +100 on the moneyline for our MLB best bet today.
