To get their second-to-last installment of a season series underway, the Los Angeles Dodgers will pay a visit to Petco Park to play the San Diego Padres Friday night.
These two clubs crossed paths last weekend, with the Dodgers coming out on the right side of two of the three matchups.
In the opener of that set, the Friars notched what remains as their only triumph over their division rival on this side of the All-Star break.
Let’s consider the chances of San Diego turning their fortunes before we look at some Dodgers vs. Padres betting possibilities.
San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers (94-42) have won four of their last five outings. They sit atop the perch of the National League West grouping, with 19 games separating them from the nearest challenger for the division crown. Los Angeles has also registered the most road wins (49) in the Senior Circuit this go-round.
They’re sure to be a tough team come playoff time. Meanwhile, the Padres possess the second of three NL Wild Card spots, holding a half-game advantage on Philadelphia, who holds the third.
Milwaukee, Arizona, and San Francisco are some other MLB teams vying for a backdoor into the postseason.
San Diego will need to improve a little bit before then, as they’ve gone 21-31 against teams who are .500 or better this year.
MLB Performance Recap
The Dodgers dispatched the Giants, 7-3, after powering from behind in their half of the fifth inning Wednesday night.
Angels Batters
Seven different Los Angeles batters came away with a hit in the contest, led by designated hitter Max Muncy’s three-knock performance that included a three-run homer in the eighth frame.
He and third baseman Justin Turner both had three RBIs on the night. San Diego was also at home Wednesday night when they turned away the Diamondbacks, 6-3.
That victory followed a 6-5 decision Tuesday, with both triumphs earning them their third series victory in four tries.
Left fielder Jurickson Profar, first baseman Wil Myers, and second baseman Jake Cronenworth all had dingers, and Josh Hader notched his 31 save of the campaign.
San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Analysis
Padres at the Stats
Third baseman Manny Machado has been the Padres’ best talent at the plate in 2022. He leads the team in all major statistical hitting categories, including a .297 batting average and 26 long balls. He also has 88 RBIs and a .364 on-base percentage.
Since coming over from Washington in a blockbuster trade, right fielder Juan Soto has played in 29 games, hitting .232 with three homers and only six runs driven in.
Being someone San Diego expects to make a bigger impact in the lineup, he’ll have to step it up if he wants to make another run at a World Series ring.
Dodgers at the Stats
In terms of Dodgers stats, first baseman Freddie Freeman has been a welcome addition, having won a World Series himself last fall. He’s hitting .324 — which is the second-best mark in baseball — and also owns a .398 on-base percentage.
Right fielder Mookie Betts has also been a key part of the order, hitting 33 balls over the outfield fence. He ranks in the top five in that category. Shortstop Trea Turner has 91 RBIs to this point in the schedule.

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Pick and Prediction
Making the start on the mound for the visiting crew will be right-hander Dustin May, who’s pinned up a 1-2 record thus far. He has a 3.94 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
Who to Bet On?
He’ll face San Diego’s Mike Clevinger, who’s 5-6 with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He took the hill against the Dodgers last Sunday and could only last 3.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on four hits. He also walked a pair of batters before being pulled after 68 pitches.
The Padres score today won’t cover the spread, not against such an effective order that’s proven itself against Clevinger. Make sure to take that into account with Dodgers vs. Padres betting. The under will hit, as well.
MLB Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (+100)
MLB Pick: Under 8.5 runs (-115)
