We have some incredible fights happening at UFC 274 on Saturday night inside of the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona and one of them is the co-main event as Rose Namajunas will be defending her UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship against the number two ranked competitor in Carla Esparza. These two women fought back in The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale back in December 2014 as Esparza picked up a submission victory with a rear-naked choke in the third round. Let’s check this MMA pick.
Last Fight’s Record
Namajunas is entering the octagon here with an 11-4-0 record and is coming off a five-round split decision victory over Weili Zhang back on November 6 a UFC 268. Esparza is entering this fight with an 18-6-0 record and is coming off a second round TKO victory over Xiaonan Yan back on May 22 at UFC Fight Night 188.
Namajunas vs Esparza Betting Analysis
Both fighters are worthy champions with how they can control this fight, however, only one can walk out the cage with the title. Let’s look a bit deeper into each fighter to determine where we should place our bets.
Rose Namajunas content
“Thug” Rose Namajunas has been doing extremely well as she is currently 11-4-0 with two knockouts and is the reigning UFC Strawweight Champion. She has won each of the previous three fights throughout her career, including two of them being a split decision. Namajunas does not have much power in her strikes as only two of her 11 victories ended in a knockout, but five fights ended in a submission victory.
She fought against Esparza in the finale of The Ultimate Fighter back in 2014 and has a chip on her shoulder here. Rose has the size advantages in this matchup and keeps the fights short as her fights last an average of 12:39. She also has no trouble landing significant strikes so this should be an interesting test against a fighter from her past.
Carla Esparza contents
“Cookie Monster” Carla Esparza has been doing well throughout her career as she is 18-6-0 so far in her career and is on a five-fight winning streak entering the octagon here. She has been going the distance as four of those five wins were decided by the judges. Esparza has done extremely well as 10 of her 18 wins ended with a decision win.
Esparza has been doing well as she is attempting 3.53 takedowns per 15 minutes, which is almost double what Namajunas has done throughout her UFC career. They met 7.5 years ago and she has some tape on what Namajunas is going to attempt here but there has been a lot of things that have changed for both fighters.
There has been no updates that can put this fight in jeopardy as they are both entering the cage at 100 percent and have no reported injuries suffered during their respective training camps.
Namajunas vs Esparza Betting Preview
Looking at the MMA odds provided by DraftKings, the champion Rose Namajunas is considered to be the favorite at -200 odds. Despite having a win over her, Esparza is considered the underdog at +170 entering this fight. MMA betting could be your chance to capitalize on this huge fight.
Namajunas vs Esparza Betting Prediction
People are going to dig into the fight back in 2014 but these two fighters are nowhere near the same fighters inside of the cage as they were back then. Namajunas has a considerable advantage as she is four inches taller, has a two-inch reach advantage, and 4.5 inch leg reach advantage.
Numajunas has a distinct advantage with the submissions. She has a considerable advantage as well in both takedown accuracy (56 percent to 37 percent) and submission average per 15 minutes (0.69 to 0.34). All of this to say the champion should be able to take this chip off her shoulder and retain the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship in this fight. MMA betting trends suggest this fight could provide a huge payback.
