Last season as the Championship started to heat up, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen met at the first corner of Monza and crashed in a spectacular fashion. Lewis and Max both did not finish, and Daniel Ricciardo went on to win the race.
Mclaren is certainly hoping Ricciardo can repeat his miracle victory, while Verstappen and Hamilton are hoping to get back the win they both feel was stolen from them last season.
Let’s take a look at the F1 odds, and I’ll give you my top three Italian Grand Prix betting picks.
Italian Grand Prix Betting Picks
Lewis Hamilton to Win (+900)
Lewis had a phenomenal race last weekend that was tainted by safety cars and tough decision-making. His drive was ruined by a safety car that allowed both his teammate and opponents to pit behind him, which resulted in him losing three spots on the last couple of laps.
I expect Toto Wolff, Mercedes team boss, to right his wrong and put all his eggs into Lewis winning the race this weekend. Motorsports odds have Lewis as a +900 underdog to win this weekend.
Max Verstappen Pole Position (-200)
Max Verstappen has more Pole Positions than any other driver this year, not named Charles Leclerc. Not to mention the fact that the Red Bull is looking immaculate right now, I am confident that Max will be on Pole in Monza.
He has four pole positions in the last seven races, and I expect him to make it four of eight this weekend in Italy.
Lando Norris Top 6 (+120)
Lando has had a brilliant season for Mclaren despite having a very undesirable car. It appears clear that the Mclaren is slower than the Alpine and Alfa-Romeo’s, but Norris has been phenomenal all season.
I expect him to get a top 6 finish at Monza because of the nature of the track. People will be aggressive, there will be crashes, and Lando will take advantage.
Italian Grand Prix Betting Trends
Let’s take a look at the 2022 season so far and how the drivers have compared to each other over the first 15 races of the year. Here are some of my Italian Grand Prix Betting Picks:
- Max Verstappen to win: Max Verstappen is on pace for a career-defining season and has a chance to break the record for most races won in a single season. The record is 13 races, and Max has ten wins with seven races remaining. I think he’s going to pull it off.
- Lewis Hamilton Top 5: Lewis has ten top-five finishes this year, including six straight Podium appearances at one point. After a frustrating weekend in the Netherlands, I’m expecting Mercedes to focus on making their eight-time world champion a happy man. F1 odds have Lewis as a +900 underdog to win at Monza.
- Fernando Alonso Top Ten – Alonso has had a slight resurgence this year and sits in the top 10 of all drivers. He is in ninth place, only seven points behind teammate Esteban Ocon. Alonso has 11 top ten finishes this year, including ten in a row leading up to the next race. Alonso’s highest finish of the year is fifth place.
- Charles Leclerc Pole Position – Charles has been fantastic in qualifying this year, taking seven of 15 possible Pole Positions. The only problem has been the actual racing, tainted by bad team decision-making, car issues, driver errors, and a lot more. Ferrari has slowly watched title hopes slip from their grasp.
- George Russell Top Five – In his debut year with the Silver Arrows, George Russell has shown that he is not a bust. The young brit has put together an impressive first season with 14 top-five finishes this year. His only non-top five finish was in Great Britain, where he was taken out by Guanyu Zhou’s car in a horrifying crash. Thankfully, nobody was injured.
Italian Grand Prix Betting Pick and Prediction
My two favorite Italian Grand Prix betting picks this weekend are Lewis Hamilton to win and Lewis Hamilton to Podium.
Lewis has been dominant recently, the Mercedes car looks faster than it has all season long, and Mercedes as a team owes Lewis after last week’s debacle at the end of the race.
Most Profitable Driver
I expect the team to commit to getting Lewis his first race victory of the 2022 season. If I had to pick only one, I’d definitely lean towards Lewis to win at +900.
There’s so much value on him, mainly because of how good the Mercedes car looked in the Netherlands. It genuinely was the fastest car on the track for the majority of the race, especially on the medium and hard tires.
Lewis is still one of the best, if not THE best, F1 drivers in the world, and I have a feeling he’s going to have a big weekend in Monza. Betting on Hamilton to win is one of the better F1 picks this week.
