Pick Analysis
The 2024 NASCAR season resumes this weekend with the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway. The .75-mile track favors drivers who excel over short tracks and there are several in this race who can pull a surprise. The NASCAR Cook Out 400 betting odds don’t quite reflect the strength of some of the short track specialists.
The popularity of NASCAR ensures the bigger names will get bet, even if they’re not particularly strong over the type of track a race is being held at. That can work to a bettor’s advantage. One driver who is typically tough over short courses is Josh Berry, who is an intriguing bet at +2200. He’s had several good races over short courses this season.
Drivers in the playoff chase will be doing everything they can to earn as many points as possible. The whole playoff picture can be turned upside down if a non-winning driver wins any a remaining race. It could very well happen this weekend.
The Bovada NASCAR odds call the race a toss-up, with four drivers at the top of the odds list. Berry isn’t one of them, but he has as good a chance as anybody to win Sunday. Even if he comes up short, he’ll still offer decent odds to finish well, so play Berry to finish in the top five at +400.

NASCAR Cook Out Betting Analysis
NASCAR is back after a brief break for the Olympics and is going to one of the unique tracks on the Cup Series calendar in Richmond Raceway. The track is shaped like a “D” and is one driver either love or hate. How a driver fares over the track typically plays a large factor in how much they enjoy racing there. The NASCAR odds this weekend have the usual suspects going off at low odds. Oddsmakers may be overlooking some drivers who are better suited to the course than a driver like Christopher Bell.
Berry has three top-three finishes this season, and Richmond is a track he should run well over. He started 30th at Richmond earlier this season and worked his way up to 11th by the end of the race. If he has a better qualifying run, he’ll be a contender to finish near the top of the leaderboard. With the NASCAR Cook Out 400 betting odds offering +400 on Berry to finish in the top five, it’s too tempting to pass up. It certainly offers better value than taking one of the favorites to win at slightly better odds.
Cook Out 400 Previous Winners and Betting Trends
Chris Buescher stunned the field last year, winning as a +6600 longshot. Denny Hamlin, who was the second choice in the betting, was second, and Kyle Bush was third. Busch went off at +1200, the same odds as fourth-place finisher Joey Logano. Fifth-place finisher Ryan Preece was at massive odds of +15000.
Hamlin has a pair of wins at Richmond since 2021, while Truex, Harvick, and Larson have won there once. Hamlin has the best average finish over Richmond in the last seven visits, averaging a finish of 4.6.
Cook Out 400 Betting Picks
Bet Josh Berry at +400 to finish in the top at the Cook Out 400 at Richmond. Berry has shown some talent on the short courses this season, and he’s been overlooked a little bit in the NASCAR Cook Out 400 betting odds. He has shown he has the talent to finish in the top three at several races already this season. His driving style will do well at Richmond.
