NASCAR Playoff Analysis
With just four regular season NASCAR races before the playoffs, drivers are battling for those 16 coveted spots. There have been 12 different NASCAR race winners this season, leaving just four open spots to make the field of 16. The NASCAR playoffs picture shows there are five drivers battling for those spots, but a driver winning their first race of the season could throw everything into disarray. The playoff field consists of drivers who have won a race, with those highest in the points standings if there are not at least 16 different race winners.
Martin Truex Jr. is in the best shape of the non-winning drivers, sitting in seventh place with 653 points. Since he hasn’t won a race, that puts him in 13th place in the playoff standings since the 12 race winners are in front of him. The next two NASCAR races at Richmond and Michigan International Speedway are tracks where Truex has run well at in the past. He has an average finish of 5.6 at Richmond and 6.0 at Michigan.
Ty Gibbs is next with 587 points and is No. 14 in the playoff standings. He’s run well at Michigan and Darlington in the past, but can’t afford any more engine failures or DNFs.

The Bubble Drivers Bunch Up
The NASCAR playoffs picture shows Chris Buescher is next in the No. 15 position with 562 points. He’s run fairly well at Michigan and Darlington in the past.
Ross Chastain is holding down the final playoff spot right now with 552 points. He hasn’t enjoyed a lot of success at the remaining tracks, although has been treated better at Richmond than the other three tracks in the past. Chastain is probably the biggest surprise to be in a fight for the playoffs. Few people expected him to be winless at this stage of the season.
Bubba Wallace is on the outside looking in right now, but trails Chastain by just seven points. The remaining NASCAR schedule is favorable to Wallace, who has had some good races at Michigan, Daytona and Darlington in the past.
Any other driver to make the playoff field is likely going to have to win one of the remaining four races. Chase Briscoe, who is No. 18 in the playoff standings, is 83 points behind Chastain for the final spot in the field.

NASCAR Playoffs Betting Analysis
If you’re going to win the NASCAR Cup Series championship, the first thing you have to do is qualify for the playoffs. Truex has the best opportunity there, and it’s no surprise he is the favorite among the bubble drivers. That could easily change over the next two races, which wouldn’t be the worst thing for the other drivers on the bubble. They just don’t want to see a Kyle Busch or somebody like that jump up and steal a win.
The current NASCAR odds have Buescher as the second betting choice, although Chastain and Gibbs are just behind.
Wallace is a massive longshot, even though the schedule is somewhat favorable to him down the stretch. He doesn’t have much ground to make-up and is driving well right now. He isn’t the worst of the NASCAR picks today you could make at those odds.
The NASCAR playoffs picture is coming into focus, although there are plenty of different scenarios that can happen. The drivers on the outside don’t have anything to lose, so expect to see those needing a win take a few more chances. A top-five finish isn’t going to do the job. That just adds to the excitement of the final few races on the schedule before the playoffs begin.
