NASCAR Cup Series heads to Dover, Delaware, this Sunday, May 1, for the 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 presented by RelaDyne at Dover International Speedway. The drivers will drive over 400 1-mile (1.6 km) laps for 400 miles (640km) on one of the most unique tracks on the NASCAR schedule, with no other tracks on the NASCAR 2022 schedule being quite like it. Let’s check the 2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Betting Analysis.
Last races records
The DuraMAX Drydene 400 will mark the 11th race of the 2022 NASCAR schedule, and we’ve seen some exciting results so far. Last time out, Ross Chastain claimed his second W of the season at Talladega, with Kyle Busch and William Byron winning the previous two races in Bristol and Martinsville.
Interestingly, the current leader Chase Elliott has yet to win a race in 2022, but that could change this weekend when he returns to the track where he’d placed third last year. Talking about last season’s race, it ended with Alex Bowman claiming the W, with three of his teammates in Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and William Byron claiming second-fourth.

2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Betting Analysis
Chase Elliott
Chase Elliott is one of the drivers we believe could be competing for the win on Sunday. And that is mainly due to his figures on the Dover track, which are phenomenal according to sports betting guides.
He has claimed a top-5 at Dover in eight of his 11 starts on the track. That includes a third-place finish last year and a victory in 2018. Moreover, his worst finish here (excluding when he crashed or had issues) is 12th.
Adding to that, Elliott has only one finish in 2022 lower than 14th and heads into this weekend with three back-to-back top-10s. He is in excellent form and has solid figures at Dover, making Elliott the man to watch comes this weekend.
Martin Truex Jr.
Martin Truex Jr. is one of the most accomplished drivers at Dover and always a threat. He started the 2021 race on the pole and finished 19th, which isn’t excellent, but he finished inside the top-5 in eight of his previous ten races.
Truex Jr. has yet to find his form this season, but his results are far from disappointing. Truex Jr. has two top-5s from Richmond and Talladega and three more top-10s. However, over the last four races, Truex Jr. has finished fourth in Richmond, 22nd in Martinsville, 21st in Bristol, and fifth in Talladega, so he might be a bit inconsistent.
Nevertheless, Truex Jr. always delivers at Dover, and we expect him to be in the mix to win on Sunday.
Cole Custer
Cole Custer is a complete outsider to win at Dover, but we like him as a longshot bet. He has only three starts at Dover, but he has finished 11th or better in all three.
Moreover, he raced at Dover six times in the Xfinity series and did well. His worst finish over that stretch was 13th, but he had five top-10s, with four of those being top-5s – that includes a victory in the Fall of 2019.
Updates
We have no notable news to provide in our betting guides ahead of this weekend’s race, so let’s focus on some interesting facts about the track.
- Dover International Speedway is also known as the “monster mile” due to its concrete surface, which destroys tires, so expect it to play out differently from other races of the season.
- Jimmie Johnson is the most successful driver at Dover with 11 wins, while Elliott is the youngest winner of the track (22 years).
- Across the last 11 races, five winners started from second on the grid, while the other six started the race in ninth or worse.
- Since 2016, there’s been an average of eight drivers who led at last one lap.
- The Dover International Speedways, on average, sees seven cautions.
2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Betting Preview
At the current NASCAR betting odds, the drivers above all present excellent betting opportunities. Elliott is one of the hottest drivers heading to Dover and is bound to do some damage, whereas Truex Jr. has proven his worth on this track repeatedly in the past.
Cole Custer might be a surprise pick, but he has a solid record at Dover from Xfinity and was solid in his past three starts here. Is he good enough to go all the way and upset the field? Maybe, but he is worth a smaller wager at the offered DuraMAX Drydene 400 odds.
2022 DuraMAX Drydene 400 Betting Prediction
Chase Elliott is one of our NASCAR picks we’re on for this race. He is still chasing his first victory of the season, and even though the lack of Ws hasn’t stopped him from claiming the top spot in the standings, he is bout to cross the finish line sooner or later.
Elliott has been one of the more consistent drivers of the 2022 season, and with his past form at Dover, it’s fair to assume he will be in the mix to win on Sunday. But, besides Elliott, we’re also on Custer to upset the field and claim his second W of his Cup Series career.
A bet on Custer to finish inside the top-5 is a good alternative. The offered NASCAR odds are still decent on the top-x market and might make more sense, considering he is by no means one of the favorites to come out on top.
Prediction: Chase Elliott to win
Prediction: Cole Custer to win
