The NASCAR Cup Series travels to Las Vegas for the South Point 400. It’s the 33rd race of the NASCAR schedule and will take place on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 2:30 pm Eastern time.
Drivers must go 267 laps on the 1.5-mile tri-oval course to complete the race. Danny Hamlin was last year’s event winner, giving his team its second win in the first four fall races at Las Vegas.
Four drivers were eliminated following last weekend’s race at Charlotte, including last season’s NASCAR Cup Champion, Kyle Larson. Only 50 points separate the top eight drivers in the playoff standings, with Chase Elliott leading Joey Logano by 20 points. This season is set to have one of the closest finishes in NASCAR Cup history.
South Point 400 Betting Picks and Analysis
Joey Logano
The 2018 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Logano, took the pole position at last weekend’s Roval 400 at Charlotte but had a disappointing 18th-place finish. However, he has performed well at this track and leads all playoff drivers with an average finish of 8.9 at Las Vegas.
Logano has two wins here in the spring events in 2019 and 2020, leading for nearly 500 laps. Logano has just two finishes below 16th place in the 18 races he’s run at this track and is one of the most consistent drivers in this season’s championship. He’s currently second in the playoff standings, 20 points behind Elliott, and is one of the favorite South Point 400 betting picks to win this Sunday.
Denny Hamlin
Hamlin was the winner of the South Point 400 last season and led in the spring event in Las Vegas until he retired early with drivetrain problems. It remains his only win in the NASCAR Cup at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Hamlin also had three straight finishes in the top four at this track before his 32nd-place finish here in March. He’s below the cutoff for the next round and is in seventh place in the playoffs.
He has yet to win a NASCAR Cup championship in 17 seasons, with his best finish coming in 2010 when he was runner-up to Jimmie Johnson. However, Hamlin has been consistent this season and is one of the top South Point 400 betting picks.
Christopher Bell
Christopher Bell is back on track after Sunday’s win at the Charlotte Roval course. He ran a near-perfect race last weekend after issues at Texas Motor Speedway and Talladega two weeks ago, which left him with no choice but to win or be eliminated from playoff contention.
Bell has six finishes of eighth or higher in the previous nine races and finished in the top ten at Las Vegas in the Pennzoil 400 here in March. NASCAR odds have him as one of the favorites to win his second straight race and as one of the top South Point 400 betting picks for this weekend’s event. Bell is fourth in the NASCAR Cup playoff standings, 28 points behind leader Chase Elliott.

South Point 400 Betting Pick and Prediction
South Point 400 odds lean towards Hamlin winning his second race in a row at this event. He has five top-five finishes in his last ten starts and finished second two weeks in a row at Darlington and Kansas.
Hamlin has the fastest time in the four runnings of the race, finishing in 2:46:08, which is two minutes quicker than the second-fastest time in the fall event. He’s looking for his first victory since taking the pole and winning the Coca-Cola 600 in May and is the South Point 400 betting pick to win this Sunday.
