The 2022 NASCAR Cup Series returns to Martinsville for the Xfinity 500. It’s the final race to determine the other three drivers moving on to the next race on the NASCAR schedule, the Championship 4 at Phoenix.
This is the last race in the playoff’ Round of 8, scheduled to start at 2 PM Eastern time. Drivers must complete 500 laps on the 0.526-mile oval to complete the 263 miles.
Last’s Year Competition Recap
Alex Bowman was the winner of last year’s event, which was the 18th victory for Hendrick Motorsports in the history of the race.
Joey Logano finished 18th at last week’s Dixie Vodka 400 but still leads the playoff standings after winning in the Round of 8 at Las Vegas two weeks ago.
On Sunday, he’ll find out the three other drivers he’ll go up against at the Championship 4 in Phoenix on November 6.
Ross Chastain finished second on Sunday and has an eight-point lead over Chase Elliott.
William Byron moved above the cutoff after finishing in 12th place at Homestead last weekend and is now fourth in the playoff standings.
Xfinity 500 Betting Picks and Analysis
Chase Elliott
Elliott is one of the best drivers on concrete in the NextGen cars this season. He led for 42 laps in his win at Nashville and for 73 laps at Dover in his victory there in May.
At the spring event at Martinsville, Elliott won both stages and led for 185 laps before dropping back to finish tenth. He also led for 289 laps in this event last year before falling back during a late-race caution.
Elliott won here in his championship season of 2020 and is one of the Xfinity 500 betting picks to win here on Sunday.
Denny Hamlin
Denny Hamlin fell below the cutoff to fifth in the playoff standings after finishing seventh at Homestead last Sunday. He doesn’t have a win here since 2015 but has a total of five victories at Martinsville.
Hamlin hasn’t won since Charlotte in May and finished 28th at the spring event at this track. He’s looking to become the eighth three-time winner at this race and is near the top of this week’s NASCAR odds.
Hamlin is always a threat to win at this track, and his recent momentum has him as one of the NASCAR Xfinity 500 betting picks to get a victory in this week’s event.
William Byron
Byron won the spring event here at Martinsville in April under the lights, leading for 212 laps and picking up his second win of the season.
He’s just five points ahead of the cutoff after Homestead, where he finished 12th last Sunday after starting in the pole position.
Byron only has one top-5 finish since he won here in the spring. He also has a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win at Martinsville in 2022.
He has shown he can be dominant on this track anytime he makes a start, which is why he’s one of the Xfinity 500 betting picks to win this weekend.
Xfinity 500 Betting Trends
- Hendrick Motorsports has 18 victories at the Xfinity 500, which is more than double the next-highest number of team wins.
- Denny Hamlin is the only driver in the field with more than one win at this event.
- Chevrolet has 32 wins at the Xfinity 500 and has won eight of the last 11 events.
- Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., and Kyle Busch are all looking for their second win at the Xfinity 500.
- Ford only has one win at the Xfinity 500 since 2003
Xfinity 500 Betting Pick and Prediction
Xfinity 500 NASCAR picks favor Elliott to win this at Martinsville this Sunday. He leads all drivers in this year’s Cup Series with five wins and 19 top-ten finishes. He’s also led for 803 laps this season, which is the most among active drivers.
No drivers in the field can match his recent dominance on concrete tracks and barring any setbacks. Elliott should have the best shot of getting a win on Sunday.
Elliott is the top choice to get his sixth-season victory at this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity 500.
Xfinity 500 Betting Pick: Chase Elliott (+220)
