The OKC odds to be in the mix for anything meaningful next season are quite low, but they have a bunch of promising young players that could turn out to be building blocks for the future.
Oklahoma City Thunder Game 1 Matchup Preview
The Thunder’s NBA schedule begins against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as their young core will have a big test in front of them on how they can handle the new dynamic duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert inside the paint and Anthony Edwards as a bonafide scorer.
They will likely get destroyed by Towns inside the paint, as they do not have any size or physicality to deal with such a dominant player at the rim.
The OKC odds to win this game are minimal at best.
2022 Oklahoma City Thunder Schedule
The Thunder begin their season facing off against the Minnesota Timberwolves (twice), Denver Nuggets (twice), Los Angeles Clippers (twice), Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and Detroit Pistons.
There are a bunch of tough games to begin their season, so it’ll be up to everyone on their team to step up, play their role well and play as a group.
The OKC odds to win a lot of games is low as it is, but it’s going to be incredibly difficult for them to get off to a good start to the season, given how tough their opponents will be.
To be honest, they’d be lucky if they can get a win during their first 10 games.
Oklahoma City Thunder Season Props
NBA predictions have the Thunder with an over/under win total of 23.5 wins.
That might be pushing it if we’re being honest, as their top pick, Chet Holmgren, will miss the entire season with a foot injury, and the rest of the supporting cast, aside from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey, just don’t look ready to contribute to winning basketball.
Gilgeous-Alexander continues to put up well-rounded NBA player stats with all of the opportunities he gets out there in the points, rebounds and assists categories. Health will be a major question mark for him.
Giddey should also continue to put up good all-around numbers in those categories as well, as he’s quickly becoming a triple-double threat.
Oklahoma City Thunder 2022 Season Odds
The OKC odds to win over 25 games are iffy at best. Let’s take a look and see how realistic it is for them to be in the mix with all of the best teams in the league.
Thunder 2022 NBA Title Odds
A championship is just not realistic for the Oklahoma City Thunder at this time. This isn’t the same team that had Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden leading the way, nor is it the team that Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, and crew that got to the Finals back when they were the Seattle SuperSonics.
The teams that are expected to be in the mix for the NBA title are the Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Oklahoma City Thunder Playoff Odds
The Thunder are highly unlikely to get to the playoffs this season. They would have to finish with a better record than the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies. Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Portland Trail Blazers, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings. That is extremely unlikely to happen, as the Oklahoma City team stats just won’t be better than any of those teams.
Oklahoma City Thunder Northwest Division Odds
With the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves both in this division, it’s very hard to see how the Thunder can leapfrog any of those teams.
They are almost certainly finishing at the bottom of the Northwest Division this season.
But they’ll have plenty of chances to prepare well for the future.
Oklahoma City Thunder Western Conference Championship Odds
Coming out of the West for the Thunder is extremely unlikely, as pretty much every team in the conference will be better than them.
Their head coach, Mark Daigneault, is still learning the ropes, so it’ll take a while for this group to be considered a real threat.
