Miami’s dominant offense made them a high-upside option among NCAAB picks come tournament time. Ranking 12th in offensive KenPom, the Hurricanes can light up a scoreboard in no time. They scored 78.9 points per game in pre-tournament play, and have +6500 odds to win March Madness.

However, Indiana’s battle-tested defense in the always-physical Big Ten could work in their favor. The Hoosiers averaged 74.9 points per game and finished second in the Big Ten college basketball standings, but a defensive KenPom rating of 44 (Miami is at 112) could turn the tide. Indiana is listed at +4000 among NCAA basketball teams to win the tournament.

Because of earlier exits in their respective conference tournaments, the NCAAB schedule may have worked in both teams’ favor. They should be well-rested and ready to go.

Key players to watch out during the game

We will get to see two of the more dynamic college basketball players go at it in Miami’s Isaiah Wong and Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis. Wong should be looking to attack the rim and get Jackson-Davis in foul trouble, but the latter can dominate as a scorer, defender, and rebounder.

In the regular season, Wong led the Hurricanes in points (15.8), assists (3.4), and steals (1.4) per game. His play with fellow guard Jordan Miller (15.0 points per game) will be crucial to Miami’s success.

The Hurricanes can pull the upset if they continue to pull Indiana’s defense out of position and get them in foul trouble, especially since Miami shoots a whopping 77.7% as a team from the free-throw line (12th best among all men’s college basketball teams).

Meanwhile, Jackson-Davis is a one-man wrecking crew for Indiana. No other Hoosier comes within half of his rebounding total (10.9 per game), and only one other player, Jalen Hood-Schifino, comes with half of Jackson-Davis’ 20.9 points per game (Hood-Schifino averages 13.3).
