In March, we watch the top NCAA teams and players at the Big Dance. This year is no different.
Some of the biggest names in college basketball as Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis, Purdue’s Zach Edey, Kansas’ Jalen Wilson, have already been eliminated heading into the Sweet 16. Even so, there are still plenty of NCAAB players to watch in regards to the upcoming NBA Draft.
Let’s take a look at some of those college basketball players making a case to move to the next level.
Big Names, Big Games
Likely the two biggest names when looking at the NCAA basketball teams that remain in the tournament are freshman forward Brandon Miller from Alabama, and senior forward Drew Timme from Gonzaga.
Brandon Miller
Miller has been outstanding in his first collegiate season. His game is part of what makes the Crimson Tide one of the top March Madness picks to win the national title. Miller scored zero in the first game, but had 19 points and seven rebounds in the second-round win over Maryland.
Drew Timme
It seems like Timme has been one of the NCAAB players to watch for a very long time. But this is only his third NCAA Tournament after the 2020 version was canceled due to COVID-19. Still, Timme comes up big in March. He put up 28 points, eight rebounds, and three assists in Sunday’s win over TCU.
Jamie Jaquez Jr. & Marcus Sasser
Other players to watch include UCLA forward Jamie Jaquez Jr. (17.5 points, 8.1 rebounds) and Houston guard Marcus Sasser (16.9 points).
Out of Nowhere
A tournament run can do more for a player’s reputation than having a solid season throughout the NCAAB schedule. The higher the stakes, the more attention some players get for leading a tournament run.
Markquis Nowell
Kansas State guard Markquis Nowell has been one of the top assist men in the nation this season. Nowell came up big in the Wildcats’ win over Kentucky on Sunday, finishing with 27 points, nine assists, and three steals and showing that he could be a clutch scorer that might translate to the NBA.
Tyson Walker
Michigan State guard Tyson Walker has been likened by some to another March Madness hero of the past, former UConn guard Kemba Walker. The Spartans have been led by Walker in their run to the Sweet 16, as he’s averaged 17.5 points, including going for 23 in an upset of second-seeded Marquette on Sunday.
Paint Power
Some of the NCAAB players to watch are just imposing their will on the rest of the field, making their team one of the best NCAAB picks to win it all.
Adama Sanogo
That’s the case with UConn junior big man Adama Sanogo. Sanogo has averaged 26.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in the tournament thus far, and he’s a big reason (pardon the pun) that the NCAAB odds are favoring UConn to come out of the Sweet 16.
Dylan Disu
Senior forward Dylan Disu has been turning his game up for the biggest NCAA basketball games today, averaging 17.8 points and 9.0 rebounds over the last five contests.
Disu’s rise in production has all come in the postseason, as Texas won the Big 12 Tournament title and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Disu had 28 points and ten rebounds in the Longhorns’ win on Saturday over Penn State.
Rising stars and game-changers to watch in the final games
The NCAAB players to watch the rest of the way will help their teams beat the NCAAB odds. It might be someone getting a chance due to a new player on the college basketball injury report or a player coming up big on the biggest stage.
There are only a few more games to go in the Big Dance, keep your eye on all the NCAAB players to watch before they head off to the next level.
