The NCAA March Madness bracket continues to get smaller. The tournament is now down to the Sweet 16, which began Thursday and continues on Friday.
Four games remain to determine the Elite Eight teams in the NCAA basketball games today, allowing bettors to fine-tune their NCAAB picks.
In the NCAAB odds, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have consistently been a betting favorite in the March Madness picks to win it all. However, other top teams, including the Michigan State Spartans, UConn Huskies, and Houston Cougars, are still viewed as strong contenders.
Making a March Madness prediction is tougher with this lineup.
Bulldogs Ready To Attack
The Bulldogs have the best offensive team in the country, scoring 124 points per 100 possessions and averaging 87.5 points per game. They rank high in nearly every offensive category, including 11th in the nation in three-point percentage (38.73%).
In the KenPom rankings, they sit above Kansas at Number 8. Their defense can be a problem (they allow 99.7 points in 100 possessions). Still, it will take an elite defensive team to slow down the attack led by Drew Timme.
However, at +320, the Alabama Crimson Tide have emerged as the front-runner following their impressive performance in the tournament’s first two rounds of the NCAAB schedule for March Madness.
They won the first two tournament games, having secured the top spot in the bracket and securing a better March Madness prediction spot. The team is preparing to face off against San Diego State Aztecs in the Sweet 16 on Friday.
Watch Out For Miller
Brandon Miller, a potential top-three pick in the imminent NBA draft, leads the Crimson Tide. He contributes majorly to their performance, ranking seventh in the nation among college basketball players for points per game with an average of 82.5. Per the latest college basketball injury report, he’s healthy for Alabama’s Sweet 16 game against San Diego State.
The team’s proficiency in making three-pointers, achieving a success rate of 47.8%, is notable. They play with a fast pace, having almost 73 possessions per game on average.
Houston, the sole remaining first seed, is up next with odds of around +350. The team advanced after defeating the number 16 Northern Kentucky Norse and Number 9 Auburn Tigers to reach this point. Their next challenge will be facing off against Miami, the fifth seed, during the Sweet 16 on Friday.
The Owls Make A Surprise Visit
FAU’s outstanding performance this season has resulted in an impressive winning record of 33 games. This also includes their perfect and unbeatable 17-0 performance at home. Moreover, their record of 18-2 in Conference USA has made them the champions of the C-USA conference, thereby securing their automatic March Madness berth.
With a winning streak of nine games, FAU continues to be a top favorite among fans. The Owls haven’t suffered many losses this season, with only three so far, each occurring during an away game. During the first round, FAU Owls managed to snatch a one-point victory against Memphis to upset every March Madness prediction.
In the second round, they battled it out with the FDU Knights, a team that had taken down the Purdue Boilermakers in the prior round. However, FAU triumphed over FDU with a score of 78-70, earning them a spot in the Sweet 16 and a nod in the college basketball standings.
Princeton Not Looking Hot
Among this year’s NCAA basketball teams, Princeton is the home of the true Cinderella, upsetting the NCAAB odds and having caused two of this year’s tournament’s biggest shockers.
First, they surprised everyone by defeating the Arizona Wildcats. Then, they secured a win over the Missouri Tigers, outscoring them by 15 points.
Princeton’s likelihood of winning the remainder of the games in this year’s March Madness fails to captivate the interest of sportsbooks. In the March Madness betting odds, they’re in the basement at around +10000.
