The Atlantic Coast Conference has grown to 17 teams with the arrival of California, Stanford and SMU. The Mustangs should be the best of the bunch this season, but SMU looks to be a bit behind the other top dogs in the conference.

The ACC college football odds favor Florida State, although the Seminoles aren’t going to have an easy time of it. Clemson and Miami, Fla., will be breathing down their necks. North Carolina State and Louisville aren’t far behind. Florida State has the second-highest odds of any conference favorite this season.

Both Florida teams will rely on the transfer portal this season. The Seminoles brought in former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. The quarterback is good but not necessarily great.

He has some solid players surrounding him and won’t have to do everything. The Hurricanes welcome quarterback Cameron Ward from Washington State and Uiagalelei’s teammate with the Beavers, running back Damien Martinez.

There appears to be a bit of a drop-off after the top three teams and that’s reflected in the ACC football odds. NC State and Louisville are good teams but don’t appear to be able to get past FSU, Clemson, and Miami.

The Hurricanes avoid Clemson and host Florida State, which gives them a good chance at getting to the ACC championship game. Miami has the longest odds of the three top teams and is worth a shot at +400.

The Seminoles are the consensus pick to win the ACC. Florida State brought back just eight starters but was again highly active in the transfer portal. The Seminoles signed three players from Alabama who could make immediate impacts. FSU will be good and could very well win the ACC, but they may not be the best way to bet.

Clemson may not be what it was five years ago, but the Tigers can play football. Last season’s four losses are probably more of an anomaly than anything else. Clemson’s offense sputtered at times last season under quarterback Cade Klubnik.

They’ll have to do more and the defense returns just two starters, but will be a top-notch unit. The Tigers could be a good team to take in your Picks and Parlays for NCAAF if they’re undervalued in the first month of the season.

Miami has been expected to challenge for the conference title for several years now but has consistently underachieved. This could be the season that changes. The Hurricanes returned some solid players and brought in a decent group of transfers to fill the spots where players graduated.

Louisville and North Carolina State are the only other teams with ACC college football odds shorter than +1000. Virginia Tech is at +1000. All three teams should be playing in bowl games, but it’s hard to see any of them winning the ACC.

SMU is making a big jump in class. But the Mustangs return talented players. Winning the ACC might be too big of an ask out of SMU, although the Mustangs could be worth using in your NCAAF picks in the early going of the season.

Pittsburgh pulled a stunner in 2021 by winning the ACC with preseason NCAAF odds of +4000. The Clemson Tigers saw their run of six straight ACC titles end. The Tigers were -900 to win the ACC at the start of the season.

The Hurricanes don’t have a bad conference schedule and get FSU at home. That could be enough to propel the Hurricanes to victory and set them up to win the conference championship.
