Pick Analysis
The Heisman Trophy is an award for the “Outstanding performance which best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.” In reality, the Heisman Trophy has turned into another award for quarterbacks. Of the last 14 winners, 12 have been signal callers. The two exceptions are Derrick Henry in 2015 and DeVonta Smith in 2020. So, if you’re looking for your 2024 winner, start with a quarterback. The sportsbooks also know QBs are winning at a high rate, so the players with the lowest Heisman Trophy betting odds are all quarterbacks.
Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel is now a slight favorite against Carson Beck. Quinn Ewers, Jaxson Dart and Jalen Milroe are also getting a lot of consideration. There are plenty of others that have drawn some betting action, although they’re primarily quarterbacks. Gabriel has become a bit of a public ‘sharp’ play and attracted some wagers. Plenty of bettors are expecting the Ducks to be among the best NCAAF picks this season. The sportsbooks are aware of this this, however, and Oregon might not be the great wager people think.
When it comes to betting into the Heisman Trophy odds, you can either play it safe with one of the logical favorites, or you can take a stab on a real longshot. We’ll take the longshot route here, and nab Penn State quarterback Drew Allar at +3500. Allar threw for 25 touchdowns and two interceptions last year, while adding four TDs and 210 yards rushing. The Nittany Lions will be a pretty solid quarterback once again and has the potential to take it up another notch.

Heisman Trophy Betting Analysis
There are plenty of good quarterbacks in college football this season and many of them are going to receive Heisman Trophy consideration. Allar is one who offers a combination of potential and generous odds. The Nittany Lions don’t have the easiest NCAAF schedule, but it’s not horrible. Penn State plays the likes of Ohio State and USC, but avoids Oregon and Michigan. He’ll have to take it up another notch, although the same can be said for the favorites.
The preseason schedule opens with a tough West Virginia team, but then sees a pair of MAC teams in Bowling Green and Kent State. Allar will need a fast start to build up Heisman consideration and then it turns into a bit of a PR campaign. Universities spend a lot of time trying to promote their stars. A Heisman Trophy is a great recruiting tool.
Allar has seen a little bit of betting action, opening at +5000 and dropping to +3500. The NCAAF odds are fair and he’s worth a shot at that type of payout.

Heisman Previous Winners and Betting Trends
The last four Heisman Trophy winners have started the season at pretty generous odds. Jayden Daniels was +1000 last season and Caleb Williams was +800 the year before that. Bryce Young was also +1000 when he won in 2021 and DaVonta Smith opened at +10000 and quickly moved to +2500 when he won the award in 2020.
The most obvious betting trend in recent years is a quarterback winning the award. When only four non-quarterbacks win an award since 2000, it’s definitely designed for quarterbacks to win.
Heisman Trophy Betting Picks
Bet Drew Allar at +3500 to win the Heisman Trophy. Allar had a solid season last year and his Heisman Trophy odds are pretty lofty. He finished last season strong and if he picks up where he left off is due for a big season.
