Jayhawks vs Chanticleers Betting Preview
The Kansas Jayhawks are on the road in a Friday night lights matchup as they will face off with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. This will be the first time in the school’s history that Coastal Carolina is hosting a Power 5 opponent.
These two teams met a season ago in Lawrence, Kansas, with the Chanticleers earning a 38-23 victory over the Jayhawks in the shortened Covid-19 season. Quarterback Grayson McCall had five total touchdowns in the win, and setting the over/under on him having another five should be about right.
The Jayhawks are coming off a well-earned victory over South Dakota in their season opener. This is a team that won only one game a season ago, and they are hoping to make it two straight wins. Coastal Carolina is looking to jump out to a quick 2-0 start after a dominant opening performance over the Citadel.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview:
Just a season ago, the Chanticleer finished the year 11-1 and (8-0) in the Sun Belt. Coastal Carolina had a notable win on the year, upsetting a BYU team that was led by former first-round pick Zach Wilson. This is the team’s fourth year in the FBS ranks, and on paper, this is a group that is ready for another big season as all but three starters have returned to the program from the 2020 team.
This team is headlined by their Sophomore Redshirt quarterback Grayson McCall and their superb offensive line.
McCall was one of the best under center a year ago, finishing 5th in the nation in passer rating while throwing for over 2,400 yards with 26 touchdowns to only 3 interceptions. He also rushed for over 500 yards with 7 touchdowns. The covid season was great for his development as he has now had a full offseason to grow and learn as a starter.
The Jayhawks are the first Power 5 opponent to play on the turf inside Brooks Stadium in the school’s history. Coastal Carolina is 2-0 all-time in the program’s history against Kansas with both of their wins coming on the road in Lawrence. These two teams are fairly new to one another as their first meeting was in 2019, giving the Chanticleers its first-ever win over a Power 5 opponent.
Kansas Jayhawks Betting Preview:
Despite the Jayhawks starting the season off 1-0 they had some issues over the course of the game against South Dakota. This is a team that hasn’t won back-to-back games since September of 2018 and this road doesn’t get any easier or bode well for their chances to end that drought.
Kansas comes into this contest as (-27) point underdogs. Over its last 15 games when being the underdogs of 21 or more points the Jayhawks are 9-5-1 against the spread.
Quarterback Jason Bean was solid in the opener, completing just over 64% of his passes while throwing for two touchdowns. That makes two or more touchdowns in five of his last seven contests.
Mason Fairchild and Trevor Williams combined for 9 catches on 108 receiving yards. The running game is putting up 84 yards per game, with Bean leading the way early on with 15 carries for 54 yards.
On the defensive end of the ball, the Jayhawks are allowing 14 points and 265 yards per game.
There is a fairly sizable gap between the two teams in terms of talent and while there is not much history between the two programs Coastal Carolina does hold a 2-0 record all time. Kansas hasn’t won back-to-back games in almost 3 years, and it’s hard to imagine a scenario where this happens, especially on the road. The Jayhawks cover the spread yet again.
