The 2022 NFL season is getting closer and closer, with training camps starting before you know it. So what teams are going to make you a happy bettor with their performances, and which are going to fall flat? Check the NFL Betting Preview below.
We’re going to take a quick look at the league heading into the 2022 campaign and try to give you a few teams you should be watching out for, as well as a few to keep away from. Here’s our 2022 NFL Preview.
Teams You Should Avoid Bet On
Seattle Seahawks
Most NFL predictions for the upcoming season have the Seattle Seahawks among the longest odds to make the postseason or reach the Super Bowl, and it’s for a good reason. The main reason? Russ is gone.
The Seahawks moved on from quarterback Russell Wilson in the offseason, and that left the team without an identity and a leader.
While the Legion of Boom was breaking up over the last few seasons, the play of Wilson under center was a constant and always made Seattle a threat to be a title contender.
Seahawks Without Wilson
But now Wilson is in Denver, and the Seahawks are in a division that is going to make it hard for them to reach five wins.
Do not believe in Drew Lock. Nothing against the guy, but he’s not at the point of his NFL career that he can carry a team.
NFL stats point to him being one of the worst QBs in the league. There are some nice pieces here, but not enough for a playoff run.
Atlanta Falcons
Another team that has moved on from its long-time quarterback, Atlanta, must replace Matt Ryan under center, and even with Ryan, the Falcons weren’t exactly a powerhouse.
The current options for Atlanta are:
- Marcus Mariota
- rookie Desmond Ridder
- Feleipe Franks
Let’s just say those options are going to put the Falcons near the bottom of the NFL standings this season.
Falcons Coach Performance
Usually, a solid coach can help a team overcome its shortcomings, even at quarterback, but Arthur Smith isn’t exactly drawing rave reviews from his first season as the Atlanta head coach.
Now he goes into his second season without the veteran leadership from the quarterback position he had a season ago. Fans in Atlanta Falcons are hoping the Braves can make another magical run this season.
New York Jets
Is there much to be said here? It is the Jets. Even with quarterback Zach Wilson having an NFL season under his belt, the chance of dramatic improvement isn’t likely with this bunch.
This is another team that is mired in a tough division, which is going to make improvement difficult, but it is also just fighting the history of the team, which isn’t good over the last few seasons.
Jets Young Talent
There is some nice young talent, helped by the drafting of cornerback Ahmad Gardner (fourth overall) and wide receiver Garrett Wilson (10th), but youth isn’t likely to lead to more wins for this bunch.
Check back in a few seasons with this group, and they might be ready to contend for a playoff berth, but not in 2022.
Teams That Are Unpredictable
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens were thought to be one of the top contenders in the league last season, but the health troubles of Lamar Jackson, who appeared in only 12 games, were a major problem.
Jackson will be back and hopefully healthy this season, which brings the greatest running threat at the quarterback position the league has ever seen back to the field.
Ravens’ Offense and Deffense
Baltimore parted ways with Hollywood Brown, taking away one of the more dangerous receiving threats for the team, but the Ravens have never been about the offensive side of the ball.
This team’s defense should be tough again, and that could keep them competing in an AFC Central, which is suddenly very wide open.
Arizona Cardinals
On the other side of the Hollywood Brown trade were the Arizona Cardinals, who will now benefit from having the receiver on their roster.
He’ll help make up for the absence of DeAndre Hopkins to a six-game suspension to start the season, but when the two are both on the field, watch out.
Cardinals’ Expectations
Quarterback Kyler Murray has to be excited about the possibilities with this group, which surprised many with its playoff run a season ago.
That will also bring a tougher schedule, which begins with consecutive games with the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders to start the regular season, followed by a date with the defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. We’ll learn a lot about the Cardinals from the get-go.
Teams You Would Like to Bet
Los Angeles Rams
As for NFL betting odds, the run to the Super Bowl was magical for the Los Angeles Rams. Now can they follow it up?
Matthew Stafford is a year older, as is Aaron Donald, but both should be among the best at their positions yet again.
Wide receiver Cooper Kupp will again be there for Stafford to throw to, but he’ll also draw a lot of attention from opposing defenses.
Rams’ Expectations
Newly acquired Allen Robinson will help, as he goes from the Chicago Bears to the Rams in a major upgrade for his opportunities as a receiver.
Los Angeles will be taking every team’s best shot, but it will be in the mix for the NFC title when all is said and done.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
After a brief retirement flirtation, Tom Brady is back again, and any time Brady is on the field, his team has a chance at a title run.
The 44-year-old threw for the most yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43) in the NFL a season ago, so it’s hard to say he’s lost much.
Buccaneers Needed Defensive Improvement
Tampa Bay must be better defensively, especially since it will likely have to take down the Rams and/or the Green Bay Packers and their great quarterbacks in the postseason.
In a down NFC South, the Buccaneers should rise to the top for a top seed in the conference playoffs, which will take them to another Super Bowl appearance.
Kansas City Chiefs
Yes, the Chiefs lost a big-name receiver in Tyreek Hill, but any NFL predictions that don’t include Kansas City among the top contenders just don’t know football.
Having Patrick Mahomes under center is a recipe for a contender, and he still has the best tight end in the game in Travis Kelce.
Mahomes Helpers on Field
The Chiefs are always going to be in a game with Mahomes, who is shockingly just 26 years of age and entering his prime.
Having JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Kelce to throw the ball to will help Mahomes get over the departure of Hill, and Kansas City should again be in the AFC Championship Game with a chance at the Super Bowl.
Buffalo Bills
It’s not the Jim Kelly/Marv Levy Buffalo Bills of the past, but this season will see Buffalo Bills make its way back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the early-1990s run of four straight losses in the NFL title game for the franchise.
Josh Allen Analysis
Quarterback Josh Allen has ascended to become one of the most dangerous players in the game, and he has plenty of help around him and on the other side of the ball.
Buffalo and Kansas City will give us another playoff classic like last year’s 42-36 overtime affair, but this time, it will be the Bills coming out on top, then defeating the Buccaneers for their first Super Bowl title.
