Expect a close contest to win NFC South this year
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the three-time defending NFC South champs. But they expect to have some competition for the top spot in 2024.
The Falcons made a huge splash during the offseason by acquiring not one, but two quarterbacks. Thus, Atlanta is the favorite in NFC South outright betting odds, leading the four-team field at -120.

The Atlanta Falcons signed former Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins to a four-year contract then selected University of Washington standout Michael Penix Jr in the first round of the 2024 draft.
Atlanta, which has finished 7-10 three years in a row and has won exactly seven games in five of the past six seasons, was done in by shoddy QB play, finishing 27th in team quarterback rating, 26th in passing touchdowns and 22nd in passing yards.
The Buccaneers have the second-shortest NFC South outright betting odds at +310; the Saints are third at +375, and the lowly Carolina Panthers are +1100 to win the division.

The Falcons are widely perceived to have the best roster and are one of the NFL free expert picks by many 2024 NFL bettors. The Bucs have reached the playoffs three years in a row, and even won a postseason game over the Eagles last year. The Saints haven’t been to the playoffs since losing to the Buccaneers in the 2020 playoffs.
At least the Carolina Panthers can pick first this year, and we’ll root for improvements from 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young.
NFC South Prediction
The South is way more wide open than Vegas is giving it credit for. Plus, although the Falcons should have an exceptional offense, led by Cousins, top wideout Drake London, tight end Kyle Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson, those guys aren’t going to play defense for the Falcons, who allowed the 12th-most rushing yards (2,009) and ranked 18th in points-against per game (21.9)
New Orleans has all the pieces in place for a division contender, especially if QB Derek Carr continues to be efficient and build a rapport with standout wideouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaeed. The New Orleans Saints finished tied with the Bucs for first place, losing the end-of-season tiebreaker, and boasted the ninth-best scoring offense (23.6 ppg) and eighth-best defense in points allowed (19.6).
New Orleans’ big playmakers on defense are still in place, led by 2023 team tackles leader Demario Davis and sack leader Carl Granderson and shutdown corner Marshon Lattimore.
The Saints have great value, especially with these NFC South outright betting odds at +375. Look for New Orleans to surprise and be the team that unseats Tampa Bay in the NFC South, especially if you’re in Louisiana, where you can take advantage of NFL public betting and wager on the Saints.
