Cleveland Browns vs Minnesota Vikings Betting Preview
Vikings Look to Turn Things Around With Rookie Quarterback McCarthy
The Minnesota Vikings had a tough season last year, finishing tied for last place in the NFC North with the Chicago Bears, both with a 7-10 record. Interestingly, the Vikings performed better on the road, winning 5 of their 9 away NFL matchups. They were 7-6 at one point but ended the season on a four-game losing streak.
Kirk Cousins is no longer the quarterback for the Vikings, having moved on to Atlanta. This opens the door for rookie JJ McCarthy from Michigan to take over as the starter. In the recent preseason game, McCarthy completed 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards, throwing 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Minnesota will start their 2024 regular season NFL schedule on the road. The Vikings are at the Giants in Week 1, and then will host the 49ers and Texans in Week 2 and 3.
Justin Jefferson remains the primary target in the Vikings’ offense, although he didn’t play in the game. Trishton Jackson had a standout performance, recording four catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Trent Sherfield also contributed with a touchdown catch.
Minnesota will rely on Aaron Jones as their lead running back after he joined the team following several years with the rival Green Bay Packers. Ty Chandler is expected to serve as the primary backup. Tight end TJ Hockenson is likely to miss Week 1 due to a knee injury, with a potential return of the NFL injury report between Weeks 4 and 5.
Browns Aim to Bounce Back After Week 1 Preseason Loss
The Cleveland Browns are coming off a playoff appearance last season, finishing with an 11-6 record, including an impressive 8-1 mark at home. However, they ended the season with a loss in their regular-season finale and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.
Cleveland is hopeful that their star running back Nick Chubb will return later in the season after missing time due to a mid-season injury last year. In the meantime, Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. will lead the running game. In their recent loss, the Browns struggled on the ground, rushing over 20 times but gaining only 56 yards.
Deshaun Watson will be the starting quarterback for Cleveland and is expected to see action in this game after sitting out the first preseason game. Jameis Winston, the backup quarterback, completed 4 of 5 passes for 30 yards last week. The Browns’ receiving corps is led by Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, and Elijah Moore. Tight end David Njoku, coming off a breakout season on the NFL player stats, adds another weapon to their offense.
The Browns open the regular season at home against Dallas on September 8th.
Cleveland Browns vs Minnesota Vikings Closure for the pick analysis
We’re backing Cleveland to secure a win at home in this matchup. With some starters expected to see action, the Browns have a good chance to come out on top. Our final recommendation is to take the Cleveland Browns at -3.5 against the Minnesota Vikings.
