The Chargers and the Chiefs are both sitting at 1-1 after disappointing Week 2 losses. A field goal by the Cowboys as time expired took a victory from the Chargers. The Chiefs were unable to put the Ravens away and ultimately lost the game 35-36. Let’s take a closer look to this Chargers at Preview betting preview.
Not the Worst Start for the Chargers
A loss never feels good, especially when it comes to the last seconds of the game. But after the first two games of the season, it is clear the Chargers are a tough out for anyone. They have finally found the pieces to make the offense click while the defense is holding teams relatively quiet.
Justin Herbert, the quarterback for the Chargers, was able to complete 31 of 41 passes for over 330 yards. He threw one touchdown pass; however, he did also throw two interceptions. One of the biggest downsides to an offense that passes as much as the Chargers do is the chance of turnovers increases significantly. Mike Williams was able to haul in seven of his ten targets for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Chargers were great in quarters two through four. The first quarter was their downfall, giving up two rushing touchdowns. Giving up just six points in the last three quarters, the defense seemed to have figured it out. While Prescott and the Cowboys are a solid football team, the Chargers’ defense will be tested even further, taking on Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense.
Chiefs Failed to Finish
The Chiefs came out and looked great on both sides of the ball early in this game. Early in the second quarter, they took a 14 point lead. Unfortunately, Lamar Jackson and the Ravens did not back down and were able to lead a comeback. The Chiefs went on to lose by a single point.
Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs’ quarterback, was 24 for 31, accumulating 343 passing yards and three touchdowns. He did throw his first interception of the season in the second half when he tried to force a ball to Travis Kelce that led to points for the Ravens. The run game for the Chiefs failed them again, only accumulating 44 yards from their running backs and a huge fumble late in the game that sealed the deal for the Ravens.
The honey badger, Tyrann Mathieu, played his first game of 2021 for the Chiefs defense after an injury he sustained. He was all over the field, with six tackles and two interceptions. In one of his interceptions, he was able to return for a touchdown. The Chiefs struggled to stop the mobility of Lamar Jackson, which will not be an issue this week against Justin Herbert, who does not leave the pocket often.
The Picks
The Kansas City Chiefs are -7, and the points total is set at 55½.
Expect the Chiefs to come out swinging after an early regular-season loss. This will be their first AFC West game of the season; expect them to try and run this score up.
The Chargers are 1-0 on the road; however, they played a very weak Washington Redskins team, who lost their quarterback very early in that game.
Take the Chiefs -7.
