After a blowout loss to the Bills, the Dolphins will look to get Brissett more comfortable in the starting role heading into Week 3. Las Vegas looks to repeat their performance from last week, where they were able to get points on six different drives and beat the Steelers 26-17. Let’s take a closer look to this Dolphins at Raiders betting preview.
Tua is Officially Out
The news became official yesterday morning that the Dolphins quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, will not play this Sunday with broken ribs. After the shot he took in the first quarter last Sunday, Tagovailoa was carted off the field and looked to be in serious pain. Taking his place will be the backup, Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett is in his fifth season in the NFL after being drafted back in 2016. Brissett spent the last four years in Indianapolis, where he was flip-flopped around a couple of times, going from backup to starter on two different occasions. Brissett has the arm to come to Miami and get the job done; hopefully, the rest of the team will work hard for him.
The Dolphins’ defense could not stop the run. Luckily for them, the Raiders are one of the worst running teams in the NFL, so that does play heavy into the Dolphins’ favor. If the Dolphins’ secondary can keep Carr contained, there is a chance this game is within reach for the Dolphins.
Raiders Try to Make It 3 In a Row
In the last ten years, the Raiders have started their season 2-0 just twice. The only problem is, there has never been a 3-0 start. The difference so far this season, the Raiders have taken down two perennial playoff teams, taking down the Ravens and the Steelers. If Derek Carr can continue to play the way he has been, the Raiders are serious contenders.
Carr had another great day for the Raiders, completing 28 of 37 passes for 382 yards. He was able to find the endzone twice, once to Henry Ruggs III and once to Foster Moreau, and did not throw an interception. Carr has had a lot on his plate, especially with a running back room that is subpar at best. Kenyan Drake and Peyton Barber combined for 41 yards on 20 carries.
The defense was all over the field, making several big plays during big drives. The Raiders defense held the Steelers to just five for 12 on third-down conversions. The one thing this defense does not do the greatest job of is getting to the quarterback. The team only recorded two sacks this past weekend, making this a priority going forward.
Betting Picks
Currently, the Las Vegas Raiders are -4, and the points total is set at 45.
If the line stays at 4, the pick has to be the Raiders. It is safe to assume Brissett will be better this week with a full week of practicing with the first team, but he will struggle with his big playmaker Davante Parker sidelined as well.
If the number moves a little bit but stays under -10 points, take the Raiders. The Raiders are built very similarly to the Buffalo Bills, who just dismantled the Dolphins this week.
