New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts
The New York Jets will travel to Lucas Oil Stadium to kick off Week 9 on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jets are third in the AFC East with a 2-5 record and are coming off a 34-31 home win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mike White finished his first career start going 37-of-45 for 405 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The Colts are second in the AFC South with a 3-5 record after losing a 34-31 overtime home game to the Tennessee Titans. Carson Wentz went 27-of-51 for 231 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions.
Colts Preview: He’s the Pitts, Man
The Indianapolis Colts have been a pretty good offensive team this season, and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr has been doing incredible. On the year, he has recorded 35 catches for 508 yards (14.5 yards per reception) with a pair of touchdown grabs. In his last game against the Tennessee Titans, Pittman had ten catches on 15 targets for 86 yards (8.6 yards per reception) and two touchdowns. It can be another huge day for Pittman if he can take advantage of a weaker team here.
The Indianapolis Colts have been a decent defense this season as they are giving up 22.9 points per game thus far. In their last game against the Tennessee Titans, they allowed 34 points on 340 total yards of offense (247 passing, 93 rushings). The defense needs to get some stops as the Titans converted on 8-of-17 third downs and fourth-down conversions. If the Colts can force punts, they will be in a great spot.
Jets Preview: Big Game Mike
The New York Jets establish the running game with running back Michael Carter in the backfield. So far on the season, Carter has 58 carries for 202 yards (3.5 yards per run) for a pair of touchdowns and 17 receptions for 131 yards (7.7 yards per catch). In the last game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he finished with 15 rushes for 77 yards (5.1 yards per attempt) with a touchdown on the ground and nine catches for 95 yards (10.6 yards per reception). If he can carry momentum in the short week, it will be huge for the Jets.
The New York Jets need to figure out how to improve defensively as they are currently giving up 29.4 points per game. In their previous game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Jets allowed 31 points on 318 total yards of offense (277 passing, 41 rushings). New York did well forcing the Bengals to punt as Cincy went 4-of-10 on third down and 0-of-1 on fourth down. The Jets did stop the running game from getting going as the Bengals averaged 2.6 rushing yards per attempt. If they can force field goals, they can have a winning streak here.
Who to Bet on Jets at Colts
These defenses have been struggling, but there isn’t a huge difference here. Mike White has gained a lot of momentum while Carson Wentz had his worst game of the season on Sunday. Jonathan Taylor can be limited in this game, similar to what they did to Joe Mixon. The top sportsbooks have this game listed as Jets +11.5, and that seems like a solid number to take, so go with the New York Jets in this game.
