Pick Analysis
The NFC North has a lot of star talent and many good teams. Each team in this particular division has a major storyline ahead of the season.
The Detroit Lions feel like Super Bowl contenders. While they fell short last season, they finished 12-5 and had one of the best seasons in franchise history. This offense hasn’t changed much from the previous year.
Jared Goff is still under center, and the rest of the offensive playmakers are still intact. Prepare for another incredible season for the Detroit offense.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers finished 9-8 in Jordan Love’s first year under center. Love was so good that he’s now the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. He agreed to a massive extension with Green Bay as the Packers look to take the next step as a unit.
On the other hand, the Minnesota Vikings let Kirk Cousins walk. They brought in Sam Darnold and drafted J.J. McCarthy. Those two are currently in a battle for the starting job though, it’s more likely Darnold will win the job for Week 1.
Finally, the Chicago Bears drafted Caleb Williams with the first overall selection in this year’s NFL Draft. The Bears finally built an offense that looks good on paper. We’ll see if they can compete instantly with their new franchise quarterback.
Let’s see what the 2024 NFC North odds look like as we approach the preseason in the NFL.

NFC North Betting Analysis
The NFC North is expected to be one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL. Every team has a case for winning the division.
The Lions want to take the next step and felt they were this close to earning a Super Bowl appearance last season. While Detroit didn’t add much to the offense, the defense got better with the addition of Terrion Arnold at cornerback. The Lions can only go so far with the offense. If the defense can step up, Detroit will continue to grow.
Conversely, the Green Bay Packers have the most offensive depth in this division. The Packers gave Jordan Love all the money he was asking for. They also signed Josh Jacobs and drafted Marshawn Lloyd as the 1-2 punch in the run game. Gone are the days when A.J. Dillon got a high carry volume. Beyond that, the Packers showcased six legitimate wide receivers that can make plays for them.
But ultimately, the most improved team looks like the Chicago Bears. The Bears didn’t put together a viable team with Justin Fields, and they’re not making the same mistake with Williams. The Bears added D’Andre Swift as running back, signed D.J. Moore to an extension at wide receiver, drafted Rome Odunze, and signed Pro Bowler Keenan Allen. This is the most stacked Chicago’s offense has looked possibly ever.
Finally, you can’t count out the Minnesota Vikings. They’ve got the NFL’s best receiver and a quarterback in Sam Darnold, who could turn heads. Darnold was a top pick but never really got the chance to shine after leaving the New York Jets’ mess. After we saw what Kirk Cousins did with Kevin O’Connell, Darnold could do the same.

NFC North Previous Winners and Betting Trends
The Detroit Lions won the NFC North last season for the first time since 1993. Before the Lions last season, the Vikings added an NFC North win in 2022.
Green Bay had won three consecutive NFC North titles from 2019 to 2021, and the Chicago Bears snuck in an NFC North title in 2018.
All four teams have at least won the NFC North since 2018. It’s why last year’s NFL standings, 2023-24, were so tight in the division.
NFC North Betting Pick
When looking at the 2024 NFC North odds, bookmakers don’t believe the Vikings have a chance. While it’s unlikely the Vikings will win this stacked division, there’s some value with the Vikings. Let’s review some of the most valuable NFL odds available for this market.
Detroit Lions +135
It’s still safe to assume the Lions will have one of the best offenses in the NFL this season. The Lions averaged more than 27 points per game and finished third in the NFL in offensive yards per game. Detroit also scored 11 playoff touchdowns and 58 overall touchdowns last season.
They’ve got a bunch of playmakers who understand their roles. David Montgomery might be the starting running back, but Jahmyr Gibbs knows he’ll still be a major portion of the offense in many areas.
Again, if the defense could improve under Aaron Glenn, the sky is the limit for Detroit.
Minnesota Vikings +1000
There’s no guarantee the Vikings win the division. It’s why they’re +1000. However, the value is there.
Sam Darnold has looked good in training camp and will likely win the job. Eventually, he’ll hold on to the job and give J.J. McCarthy a year of learning on the sideline.
The Vikings still have Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. They also added Brandon Powell and will eventually have T.J. Hockenson back in the lineup. In addition, the Vikings brought in Aaron Jones to be the starting running back. Ultimately, when he’s healthy, he’s one of the best runners in the league. You can utilize him in many different ways. That’s likely what Minnesota’s intentions are with Jones.
Per our NFL expert betting picks, at +1000, put some change on the Vikings. They’re only one year removed from winning the NFC North, and not much has changed since then.
