Las Vegas Raiders vs. Los Angeles Rams Analysis
The 2022 season was not the greatest for the boys from Sin City. The Raiders just could not put things together and finished 6-11. Gone is Derek Carr, and it is Jimmy Garroppolo as the starting quarterback. Carr threw for more than 3,500 yards a season ago, with over 1,500 of them going to Davante Adams. Josh Jacobs was also a huge key with 1,652 rushing yards. The Las Vegas Raiders roster will certainly look different this season.
Jacobs is holding out, so not sure what the Raiders will see from the running game. In the preseason opener, Zamir White rushed 13 times for 43 yards and a touchdown. Sincere McCormick also got 9 carries for 27 yards as well. The Raiders will use a wait-and-see approach on who they can use effectively during the regular season.
Aidan O’Connell was really good at quarterback, with 15 of 18 passing for 141 yards and a touchdown. Chase Garbers came in and also threw a touchdown pass. The Raiders saw Keelan Cole catch a touchdown pass and lead the team with 6 receptions in the game. Vegas will start their NFL schedule with back-to-back road games, at Denver and then Buffalo, before hosting the Steelers in Week 3.
Rams’ Secret Weapons
Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams are one of the youngest, most inexperienced teams in the National Football League this season. But, two guys they do have in Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, are the biggest keys to their season. Kupp found himself on the early NFL injury report in training camp but expects to be ready for the start of the regular season. A season ago, despite missing nearly half of the season, he led the team with 812 receiving yards.
The Rams will turn to Cam Akers as the lead running back this season. In the preseason opener – Los Angeles used Zach Evans and Ronnie Rivers. Royce Freeman also got carries for the Rams. Those three combined for 21 carries and nearly 100 yards on the ground. At quarterback, rookie Stetson Bennett was pretty solid with 191 yards and a score. The passing touchdown came to Puka Nacua, who finished with 3 receptions and 32 yards.
The 2023 regular season will start in Seattle for the Rams. After that, they will host the San Francisco 49ers, so McVay is stressing the importance of being ready from the beginning with two divisional foes off the start.
